Rebuilding Harmonic Balancer?

Hey,

I wasn't even aware that we have that option. For the price it seems to be a good idea. Has anyone ever had there HB rebuilt? Check the link below, around 95$ US to rebuild. My crank bolt broke, I haven't pulled the balancer yet, but I'm just looking at my options in the event it is broken.

I think I would rather buy a nice BHJ but it does sound like a nice alternative for someone not willing to lay the cash down for a BHJ balancer or even a new Ford unit. I should know, I got the BHJ a few summers ago.

There was an extensive post about this exact subject a few months back... If I recall correctly, it seemed like a bad idea, but the search feature may find that particular post and give you some more insight.. I can't really blame you though, as the factory part is spendy ($250) and the BHJ is even more $$$......
Good luck.. :)

edit.... here it the link to that post..

I guess if someone wanted a cheap fix it would work... I'm more interrested in the BHJ unit. Since the rebuilt one will likely fail. What worries me is this part : "About the only special care you need to take is to keep the rubber out of parts cleaning solvent or gasoline because this type of rubber absorbes these solvents (like a sponge absorbs water) causing extreme swelling." Sounds like the wrong place for this type of rubber!!
