Super Cool 5-spd Shifter Modification

Hey guys, if any of you are a bit tired of stretching to get into 5th gear, here's a quick fix that only cost me $8.00 at the junk yard. It's a shifter handle out of a Saleen Mustang. The bolt holes line up exactly with the bolt holes for our stock shifter, so installation is a snap. Also, the threading for the shifter top, is an exact match as well, so you can retain the stock shifter top.

If you get yours from a junk yard as well, throw out the metal/rubber piece that connects along with the bolts. It makes for a sloppier feeling shifter. Just bolt on the metal handle only.

A word of advice, make sure to push the leather boot down far enough othewise you'll tear the leather on your first shift. :eek:

Here's a pic of mine installed-->

Mike, be warned that "Super Cool" is a registered trademark of Super Cool daddy Productions (No, not porno movies.). You will be hearing from my lawyers. :D

That looks like an OE Fox Mustang T-5 shifter handle. Keep in mind that there were different packages and levels of equipment on Saleen cars over the years, so it's very possible the car you pulled that piece from had a factory Ford shifter, or at least the shifter handle, still in it.

Lawyers? We don't need no stinking lawyers. (I can say that, I haven't passed the bar yet.)

Yeah, sorry I couln't have given more information regarding the car I pulled it out of. It was really really really damaged. The person driving it would have been lucky to have made it out alive, let alone walking. It had some saleen stickers on it and what not, so I called it a saleen mustang. could have been a plain jane with say g-hay stickers and rims, but? Regardless, I don't doubt that it is a stock ford shifter. maybe someone out there knows the part number?

The picture was taken with the shifter in the neutral position. It doesn't come close to the CD player. I haven't tested it, but i'm pretty sure you can remove a CD with it in 3rd, and in 4th, you can easily rest your elbow/arm on the center console. It's a little wierd to get used to at first, but once installed, it's a much more comfortable shifter. :)

I bolted a mustang shifter extension to my ripper shifter in my 95. works great. Gives you flick of the wrist shifting. I didn't think this news was anything exciting, guess i should have posted about this one sooner.

I too ventured with the mustang shifter handles. THe one in the pic does look like a factory t-5 shifter. I bought the MGW adjustable shifter handle and used it for a few days before I put my console back together. I can say it works and feels awesome, plus the adjustability of the thing ROX! Everything was good except for one thing. AT least on a 94-95 console, the leather boot gets in the way once everything is put back together. It gets streched when using the lower gears (2,4 & reverse) and in my case it actually pulled the left corner of the console away from the dash area when shifting hard. I ended up reusing the stock shifter handle because i dont want to rip my boot. Im sure on the early style consoles this will work fine.

pearl95 which handle did you end up using? does it stretch the boot?
