I was told those rod part numbers are those in the book for 94/95 engines. I have a thread started in the Performance forum in the members section on rebuilding an engine for under 400rwhp.
The consensus has been that stock replacement hyperutectic pistons are sufficient for such a goal. But if you are planning on Nitros or over 400rwhp, you should consider a new forged piston, in which case you can go with aftermarket (stronger) connecting rods.
The stock 90 rods are o.k.... but in general, it seems that the connecting rods in the SC bottom end are the weakest link. The 94/95 rod are marginally better. Polishing the beams on either rod will increase that margin. But if you plan on going all out with the motor... either now, or down the road. A better rod with a Forged Piston may be the best way to go, even if it costs a little more now.
You should check out that thread for the parts list I'm putting together. Like which bearings, rings and such.
