removing powdercoating

NO Sand!

Sand (glass bead) blasting is harmful to aluminum. It will damage it cosmeticly by pitting the surface making it look worse painted than powder coated. Also, I have blasted and repainted my SC and IC tubes, they look great. Just ask XR7 Dave. Plastic media blasting is the only way to go. That factory powder coat is quite thick and well applied so it takes quite a bit of nozzle pressure (30-40 psi) to get it off. See if you can find somewhere that uses plastic media.

I used the same stuff. It's called Aircraft Coating Remover at Advance Auto. Good stuff. I sprayed it on & let it soak for awhile, then scrubbed it off with a stiff brush.
