Piston Rock

My freind and I were lloking at the pistons in my 95 SC. My question is if you put pressure on the piston should be able to move in the cylinder? If It is supposed to is thre a way to make sure its not excessive movement or does it need new rings?

it should have some movement . how many miles im at 225 k miles still all stock i did headgaskets around 210 k miles

Sure theres some movement of the pistons. The only way to check the clearance is tear down the motor and measure the bore diameters and piston diameters, subtract the piston OD's from the cylinder ID's and thats your clearance. Same thing with the rings, remove them from the pistons and insert them about 1" down in the cylinder bore then measure ring gap with feeler gauges. Easier way is to do a compression check before you tear the heads off.
