tires 255/40/17s fit?

The 275's will fit. I have 275/40ZR18's on the rear of mine now. The car is lowered and no rubbing issues at all. The 255's will fit.

255-40-17 will be about 1-1/2" shorter than the original size tires. IMO 255-45-17 would be a better choice ... within 1/2" of the stockers for diameter.

Our cars have big wheelwells, they look a bit strange with short tires on them.

So what tires would you recommend if I'm using stock wheels?? I have 225/50-16's on there now, but they're a little too low and not wide enough for my taste. Maybe for the front, but the back needs a little more. Like you said, that's a big empty wheel well!

I have stock 255/60-16's on the '92 and they're fine there, but that's too high and to thin for the '95. But tires I don't know from. It was suggested I try 245/50's? Anyone else have any thoughts??

I have 255/40/17 on my sc and I think the rubber could be taller for a better look. So I agree go taller profile than a 40. my .02

interesting. i may have to take that into consideration. i want something thin, however not too thin that it looks like i put a body lift on my car. im gonna look into that, thanks

If your going with the same width on all 4 wheels, I suggest 255-45-17s. If you want a wider stance in the rear and want to keep the tires about the same diameter on all 4 tires, go with 245-45-17s in front and 275-40-17s on the back.

I found that even the 255 will rub on the rears if the car is lowered. I put airbags in the rears springs to fix that.

I run 245/45-17 in the front and 275/40-17 in the back.
I am using Nitto Tires. These tires were the same heigth
as my stock tires,225/60-16.
The rims are 17/9''. With 36mm off set on the wheels.

I have no rubbing, but my car has not been lowered.
My SC set's a little higher than stock, because of
some lighter parts.
.

I would like to run a 275/40-17 up front and a 315/?-18 for
the back.

Randy,

I need some new tires for my 93 and thinking about doing 245-45-17s up front and 275-40-17 Nitto Drag Radials on the rear. Just wondring if it looks okay without the car being lowered. Can you post a picture of yours.

David

I don't seem to have any more tracktion with the 275/40-17
Nitto drag radials. As I did with the 225/60-16 tires.

The only change so far is.That I don't brake traction at 90mph.
Its down to 75mph,Above 75mph my tire don't spin any more
when I have OD locked out.So I guess they help a little.

The Nitto 275 seem a little narrower than a normal 275 tire.
I think a 285 or 315 would fit in the back.But I don't know
if Nitto has the right heigth.I think a person would need
to go with a 18 inch rim in the back. And a 17 inch rim for
the front.

I will post some pictures later today,After I take some.

Thanks Randy

Randy, you are correct. The Nitto performance tires tend to be about 10 - 20 mm narrower than most other brands, for a given size.

Pirelli makes the Scorpion Zero's in a 255-55-16 that is only 1/2" less around than the stockers. I got mine for about $100/ ea. They get pretty good "gription" for the money.

If you look at my member page thats what a lowered SC looks like with short tires.....Currently Im running kumhos with 255/50/17 lowered 1.5 inches....WHen you hit weird bumps it will rub..Keep in my I have 98 cobra rims slightly wrong offset for an SC

David N. here is a picture of my SC.
The rear tires are Nitto NT555 RII 275/40-ZR17 roadrace style not dragrace.
Same tread size & pattern though.

The front is Nitto NT555 street.245/45-ZR17 same pattern but smaller.

You can get a NT555 R 245/45-ZR17 this is the drag radial.

All of the nitto tires listed above are the same as stock tire height.

I think that the NT555 R 255/50-ZR16 drag radial is the same height
as stock. If you want to use the stock wheels.

To get Nitto NT 555 tires with the drag race or roadrace tread pattern.
And the same height as stock tire. you would need to run.
Front NT 555 R 245/45-ZR17. This is a DRAG RADIAL
Back NT 555 RII 275/40-ZR17 This is a ROADRACE TIRE.

I odered a 275/40-17 roadrace tire for the back.And a 245/45-17
drag radial for the front. They sent a 245/45-17 NT555 street instead
of the dragradial for the front.

Im thinkin about going the nitto nt555r path too. I found a pair of 225/50/16 radials for a great deal im just not sure how well they will look/hook. I have the stock wheels still but the car is lowered with the eiach springs and koni adjustables. Will the 225/50 fit stock wheels, and will it look real small out back?
Thanks,
Phil
