It has been so long since I took it apart I dont remember if it had a gasket or not. Just got the motor in today and I want to have it finished tomorrow if im lucky. But if I need to order a gasket that won't happen. Can I make a gasket out of something? How about RTV? If RTV will work, which kind? I know that there are dozens of different colors of that crap.

Also, what is the best RTV to seal the IC tubes with? Also, what kind of tape to use? Thanks!!

I use high temp RTV on the IC tubes, the red stuff. Pic did not show up so not sure where you are tlaking about, I only used a gasket on the rear intake fromthe IC tube to the lower intake, on the SC hat I use the RTV. For the TB I use the gasket as well, and lower intake-heads use gaskets too.

If you are referring to the ends of the lower intake where it touches the block, you can use RTV there without a gaskets but gaskets would be good idea. I usually use a gasket with a little RTV on both sides of it.

I hope I covered most gaskets.

Thanks for the response. The pic should be working now.... there is duct tape over the opening that is circled so it kinda blends in with the intake... gasket or no gasket here? thanks!

Prefer a Gasket, Hate RTV.

Jeeze! You guys don't know how much I hate RTV overuse.
RTV is best used to fill gaps and is terrible for squeezing out of joints and creating flow robbing lumps and loose "worms and salamanders" that get stuck in bad places like rads and oil pickup screens. If you use RTV, always use the minimum you can get by with.

I'd use a gasket in this location. Ford sells it with the teflon and antisieze in the intake tube kit. If you are just going to use a sealer, I'd recomment Permatex gasket maker or Locktite rigid flange anerobic sealer. Neither leaves lumps or "salamanders".

On top of RTV mess, can't you just get some gasket material from an auto parts store and make your own gasket?

Is the Ford gasket much more than a paper type gasket?

I see the pic now, yeah use the gasket, thats what I did. That gasket is not thin either its fairly thick, I was surprised when I saw it. It cost me about $10 Canadian for it if I remember correctly.

I have a question though, is that gasket reuseable? I am not even sure it will come off in one piece but just curious.

I ended up making a gasket from some gasket material from the auto parts store. I then used red RTV on all the IC tubes. Havent started the motor yet....we'll see if it all holds together the way it should! Thanks to all who responded! :)

I think since that upper intake is so hard to see and get to that you should definetly have a gasket and a little rtv if you want. I wouldn't go without a gasket there.
