The Nitto 555r's arent good in the rain at all. From what i have seen and heard, Nittos are trash, but thats my opinion. If you want a drag radial, go BFGoodrich. If you want to spend the money get Eagle F1 GS-D3's or Bridgestone Potenza pole position S-03's. These are the best tires all around. Their traction ratings are a 9.4 out of 10.

IMO there is No such tire. What makes a tire good for the drag strip, makes it bad for driving on the street.

It really depends what youre doing with the car. The nitto R's are the best street DRAG radials in the sense that they are the closest to real tires but like cMac said they aren't great in the rain. If you want a tire that will grip off the line by all means go with a drag radial but understand they aren't really meant for everyday driving. My friends has BFG radials and they hook up great, but its real scary driving on even damp roads. I'm not positive, but I was under the impression the BFG are the most agressive drag style tire, and least oriented towards street use, and only last 5000 miles. Still, drag radials are great for DRAG racing, and are marginal street tires, but if excellent traction is what youre after go with the radials. Thats what I would do!!

You're going to put 555r's all the way around? Aren't those the drag radial tires? That would be like putting slicks on all 4 corners would it not? Just wondering. Phil

Thats a good way to waste money and unless you really feel like rally racing in the rain with a rear wheel drive car, then you shouldnt do that. Just buy two now and when those go bad buy new ones.

I've been running BFG drag radials on the rear and they are a pretty good track tire and a pretty good dry road tire. I'd never take them out in the rain on purpose. I got caught in a light rain last year and going down the hwy at 60mph, the back end of my car was sliding all over the place.
I just picked up a set of 17X7.5 cobra Rs and I'm planning to put Nitto 555R s on them cause Nitto makes a 245/45/17 which will fit on the 7.5" wide rim.

I had a pair of stock ties almost like slicks.
It was raining and .........
I exited one highway to go on another with the cruise control on.
Well, when the CC kick in after the turn I did a 180, and was traveling
at 55 backwards on the next highway, I did not know the speedometer worked backwards.
Anyway, when I slowed down to about 10-15, I turned the wheel, and did a 110 onto the shoulder.
I watched the traffic behind me as I was going backwards, and they slowed way down.
By the way, anyone tried Kumho ESCTA STX 255/55R16?

I know they are truck tires, but they are HP & fit......
