Due to me being laid off from Nasa. I'm thinking about start to polish aluminum parts for people. Let me know if you have any parts you want to get polished. I think it's going to be $400 if you give me blower taken apart. If I take apart $450 (incl. redline 50w, gasket and etc.). Let me know if you have something else like plenum, water neck, timing chain cover, intercooler, i/c tubes and etc. I'm about to do the timing chain cover off my old Lightning motor now. Let me know if interested. Remember I'm a one man show so if someone gets to me before you, you might have to wait till I get done with theirs. You can email me at sho_taurus1111@msn.com Thanks, Kevin

Here is one I just got done with.

Hey Kev, just out of curiosity, what would you charge to polish up the water neck and how long would it take?

Good luck with it, sorry to hear that you got laid off. I was reading about the job losses in the paper. Thats gonna throw a whole lot more people into the unemployment line. Are you gonna get unemployment pay? I would think you qualify so you can get by till you either get brought back on or find something else.

Yes I'm collecting the unemployment till something comes along. But the little bit of money doesn't come close to covering my bills such as mortgage and Lightning truck payment and Child support and so on. So I'm trying to polish aluminum parts to help with all my bills till I can get something going. Are you asking about the water neck on the SC? Are they aluminum? Let me know and I'll take a look at mine on my parts car and give you a price and I'll just swap it with yours so that way your car has no down time. Let me know about the neck.

I believe I have seen someone who polished up the water neck and tensioners and what not. I belive its Randy Baker (randyANDconnie on sccoa). So I'm sure it can be done. I'm not sure if its aluminum, but it very well may be since I busted the air vent off one on my car and had to buy a new one and the metal was very soft.

I'll just run a magnet across mine and see.

**** forgot about the water neck thing. I'll get on it. Right now I'm doing a upper IC tube off these cars and a timing chain cover to a Lightning. I also have my blower tore apart repolishing it too. Like I said I can polish and color mine off my parts car and you can swap me yours plus some cash of course for your the bling bling. I think If I get any spare time, I'm going to do that IC off my parts car too. I seen the one Mike was selling and it looked good.

I got my new polished double IC today, but I'm not too crazy about the finish. Check out the pic I'm attaching. The back half doesn't match the front half. The back half has a haziness to it. I don't know if it's heat-related or what. I spent the whole afternoon resanding it, & repolishing it with no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks for the info. Scott I don't have anything for polishing steel. Let me know if you have anything else aluminum you want polished.

Mike
Is the bottom like that too? Only thing I can think of is maybe he had to weld a piece in there and that is a different type of aluminum from the rest of the IC. Is it like a blue or black haze? Have you tried to color it? I have a bar of compound I use on my next to last step that removes the blueish black haze from aluminum. That step is called coloring. It makes it alot brighter like a mirror. Then last step is a compound that shines it to a high luster. Who polished it? Do you send him your polished ic and he doubled it up for you? If so who polished your first single ic?

Brian Solomon built it & polished it. I sent him 2 cores, but neither was my old polished one. I just checked the bottom, but can't tell anything from it. He did a really nice job on it, I just wish the finish was more even. I'm into the bling thing I guess.

I believe you can polish and color steel too but you have to buy the right stuff. Yes I just checked on steel and it says use white rouge bar and there is also like 1 or 2 coloring bars too.
--WHITE ROUGE

This compound will cut lightly, bringing most harder metals to a brilliant shine. Designed for polishing chrome and nickel plate, stainless steel and ordinary steels.
This what their custom made compound says -
Stainless Compound is made of "alumina" and grease binders. Developed for use on stainless steel, its fast cutting and good coloring properties are also a favorite for buffing all types of steel.

What do you mean more even? What are using to polish it? Compound and machine?

Really I just checked on what you use to polish Steel and I have all the compounds. But I would have to buy all new buffing wheels to do steel because if I use my aluminum wheels on steel and then go back to polish aluminum again the tiny pieces of steel that come off in the wheel will scratch the hell out of the aluminum piece that I would be working on. You can't switch metals types of buffing wheels.

I polished my IC tubes, raised blower top, & intake adapter by hand. 200 grit, then wet sanding with 320, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, steel wool, & then hand rub with Mother's Billet polish. I used that same technique on the IC yesterday, but the back half of it still has that hazy look to it.

I would have to see them in person. I haven't a clue as to what they look like or what shape they are in.

May need to be colored. Which this step removes the blueish black shade from aluminum.

Here are a few pics of a IC pipe that I still have to color, luster shine and wax. But you get the general idea of what it is going to look like.

That definitely looks better than mine, Kevin! I guess I've got mine about as good as I can get them by hand. I'll let you look at it once I get it running, & we'll talk about how much $$ you want to finish mine up.

Brando if you can get that powder coating off without damaging the finish of the aluminum, I can do something with it. But I've heard powder coat is a bitch to get off. I don't have anything to remove it. Paint stripper won't. Maybe sand blasting with the right kind of glass beads will do it.
Here are some pics of stuff I just got done for Lightnings and a IC Tube for the SC. If your interested in something being polished please contact me at sho_taurus1111@msn.com Thanks, Kevin

Most any auto parts store sells something called "Aircraft Coating Remover". It turns powder coating to goo.

That is what I use to strip the gray paint off the blowers, but I didn't know that worked on powder coating too. Hmmm I'm going to check that out. That stuff they sale at Advance is the best stuff. Walmart kind sucks. I have found out.
