89 S/c Maf Question

I am buying an 89 s/c that needs a new maf and housing. My question is, what other mafs can I use in replacement of the stock maf and the car still be very driveable. I am not looking for a performance upgrade, just something to make the car driveable. I can get access the 3.8 stang mafs and lincoln mafs a bit easier as I might can find one local.

I believe the '89 was the one year with the smaller 55mm MAF, but the injectors were still 30lb. So I don't see any reason why you couldn't install the popular 73mm C&L (Vortech) MAF. New they are around $200, but search the parts adds for used ones. If you are keeping the stock air box I recall it has a stepped rubber hose that can be cut to accommodate a larger MAF.
