I have an 89 sc that has been sitting for a good while that I am trying to get started. The car will not start using the switch on a regualr basis. The starter and the solenoid have both been replaced. The car will try to turn over when jumping the solenoid. However, the fuel pump is not kicking in when the key is turned over. I have a new fuel pump, bbut dont really want to go to the trouble of putting it in or having it put inuntil the key issue is resolved. Any suggestions?

If its an auto, try shifting into and out of neutral and stepping on the brake. Your year should not require the brake circuit to start, but its an easy thing to check. Also, check that your brake lights work.

Its going to be a switch somewhere which is causing the problem. The ignition switch could be bad as well. All you can do is get a wiring diagram and start tracing voltages back from whats working to what isn't... or throw parts at it  Borrowing parts is sometimes a good way to trouble shoot. :)
