Good Stuff!

Received this e-mail from my Dad a few days after the 3rd SC head job...funny stuff. Oh he wrote this to some high up with Ford / Felpro Gaskets. Hopefully this will help us if he can find anything out. He keeps asking me how to make some cash on the side since he is an experienced gasket maker/engineer. I told him to make some Ford V6 gaskets that are worth while.

Anyways, here's what I received.

Michael,

This question and the story that accompanies it are not necessarily your
domain, but I know you'll know who can answer it.

The story: This past weekend I went to my son's house to help him change
out the head gaskets on his early 90's Thunderbird SC.
This is his 3rd SC, and the 3rd set of FelPro head gaskets that have blown
and had to be replaced. It is always the rear cylinder
on the passenger side that goes out first. We spent 2 full days working on
the car. By "we", I mean Tim, myself and one of his
SCCOA buddies. (SCCOA = Super Coupe Club of America). We
aren't schlock mechanics, and follow the Ford
factory manuals to the letter regarding torque sequences, etc. To add
insult to injury, his SCCOA friends think it's funny
that I work for the company that produces the failed gaskets and derive
great pleasure by razzing me.

The question: Do Federal Mogul employees have access to MLS type gaskets
that may end this problem? Every week I read in the
online newsletter that FelPro wins NASCAR using MLS. According to Tim's
friends, someone other than FelPro is producing MLS
gaskets to correct this problem. He expects to be running his car at
various tracks this summer and I don't want him to be spending
money on unnecessary replacement gaskets. Please advise how to proceed.
Free is best. Thank you in advance for your help.

That is great! :D Too bad your dad didn't know that Felpro already makes an MLS gasket for the 3.8L engine.

True. However we all know there are better alternatives. He is going to look into it for us, and see what he can do. It's about damn time he started to listen. This is the 5th V6 3.8 that I've owned SC'd and N/A that has blown...I told him of the design flaws but since he was part of the design group I was always wrong. LOL
