WooHoo! Center section & Gears /Need Help

WooHoo! I just acquired a BRAND NEW center section with gears for free. It doesnt have a lick of grease, oil, (fingerprints)on it. Its even got the lube in it and caps still on it. (eeeeeerection) I need to know if I can just have the whole center section swapped out. Its an 8.8 with 3:55;s in it. I have a 93 SC 5-sped. I know its better to have 3:27's but I wanted 3:55's in my 5-speed anyway.

The housing has the following numbers on it:

RF-1L2W-4025-BA


The tag has:

V.659H

355 8.8 4A02

That might be a 31 spline pumpkin with that build date. Measure the inner diameter of the side gears. and compare to your halfshaft 28 spline diameter.

I am assuming its not going to work. I was told its for a truck. Unless trucks had 28 spline.

Can I still use the gears?

The gears can be reused..The posi itself will be 31 spline if its a truck unit

Lots of these Explorer rears floating around. I was told theres some recall on them, but yes there 31 spline.
