Once the Bird is gone I have a tough decision ahead. I have had one of the following or driven one. I need your imput on which of the following I should buy.

1989-1993 Mustang GT
1993-1995 SHO
1994-1995 Cobra
1998-2000 Contour SVT

I love all these cars and I am tied between them. Maybe your opinions could help! I am on about a $6,500 budget so an 04 Cobra is out of the question.

Depends on what your looking for. Personally I'd stay away from the CSVT and SHO because of their mod potential is basically zip w/out forced induction. And then you asking to break stuff. If I had to choose I'd go witht he 94/5 Cobra. I think those years are mean looking, there kinda rare, and there mod potential is obviously very high with the 5.0L in there. You'll get the most for your money w/mods, the rarity, and awesome looks.

This all assume your going to eventually modify it. If you needs are to haul kids around well, then my advice would be wrong.

From what you've listed, I'd go with the Cobra. If it proves too pricey, a notchback 5.0 LX. I love those cars.

The mod factor for the two cars that you mentioned are nil at best. I have always liked the 5.0 and I know that the parts are abundant. I already have a kid hauler (1996 SHO) so it isn't really a factor there. Owned the CSVT and a 1993 SHO, loved the hell outa them, but maybe it is time for me to step up and finally get a stang. Thanks

I was gonna say that EXACT thing. I love the notchbacks. Mmmmmmmm :)

The notch backs are cool, but would rather have a hatch back. If I could find one in good shape I would love to have a 1988 (I think) GT with the t-tops.

After having had an MN12, even if it IS a high mileage junkpile, I'm not sure I could go back to a Fox or SN95 as a daily driver. The chassis of th MN12 is so much smoother it's not funny. OTOH the power-to-weight ratio of the lighter chassis is nice for a weekender.

Anyway, I vote Fox GT/LX of the choices given, with a close second by the SHO.

Where's the moderator when you need one. I would rather drive the Escort.

Anyways, 87 and 88 stangs were both available with T-Tops in GT form. I would love to have a 90 GT (25th Anniversary). Notchbacks, or "Trunks" as they are also known, are good for drag cars because they are so light. For a nice cruiser I prefer a hatchback also. Next would have to be a 94/95 Cobra, but you won't find a decent one for 6,500. A SHO would have to be last and the Contour shouldn't even be on the list. Silly cars really. It just irritates me that they will put a SVT badge on a Contour and Focus but stuck the SVT T-Birds in the crusher. Those bastards.

The fox hatch backs rattle and squeak with age, more so than the notches.

But to be honest I'd get a 94/95 stang even if its not a cobra, its easier to bring them up to power and cheaper to do so than the 4.6 sohc engines.

You can make it a cobra with a few simple bolt ons. Add the wheels and bumpers and get a nice hood for it, no one would know unless you go to sell it to a collector. But for a fun car to play with you can't beat it. Plus the SN-95's are more solid and have nicer interiors than the fox's.

I would however get some 96-98 tail lights to put on the car, since I don't like the horizontal slot ones on the 94-95's. Just a personal preference though.

I don't like any of those choices....buy another SC.

I am looking for something pratical. I want to be able to work on it. Parts for our cars are getting harder and harder to find. When you can find a part it is through the roof as far as price goes. I know that the SHO and the CSVT are the same way, but as far as the 5.0, I could do an entire engine rebuild in the time it took me to do the valve cover gasket, plugs and wires on the SC.

I DO want another SC someday, right now I don't have the room, time, or patience for a car that is this demanding. If I do buy another one it will have to be a 94 or a 95. Thanks guys for all your opinions!

If it's just the motor that's causing you greif, do what I did and convert to a 5.0 HO v8. Then nearly all the engine parts and sensors are the same as a 94/95 Mustang. You can get all the parts needed for the conversion from a junk yard T-bird LX.

I can also tell you, that it isn't any cheaper modding the 5.0 for big power. Once you go over 550 HP it starts getting real expensive.

Yeah, but Dave, you can send a 250 shot through the 5.0 all day long.

Fertile Phil had his 180k mile motor with stock head/cam and pumped a big shot through it A LOT. Fastest time was 10.97 in a Fox Body.

He did garden hoses (just about) for fuel lines and upgrades there. But, nothing internal. So, you can still get a quick 5.0 ride for pretty cheap. .. Not the consistant 550rwhp on every block. But easily there when you want it. And depending on bottle size.. .. Sometimes for as long as you could need it.

I vote for the 89-93 Mustang, thats what I did. I was tired of all the little problems the Tbird was giving me, and parts...we won't do there. I do miss my 94 Tbird a lot sometimes, but the sound of my Stang at WOT helps me get by :D Good Luck on whatever you decide.
