OK.. both compress the intake air to a much higher pressure, essentially squeezing in 3-4 times the amount of air into each cylinder. More air means more power. In a turbo, a turbine is powered by the flow of hot exhaust gas out of the manifolds. That turbine is connected by a shaft to a compressor on the other side which compresses the intake air. On a supercharger, there is no turbine in the exhaust stream, but rather the crankshaft spins the compressor directly with a belt. The diff is that the SC can be spun up immediately where as the turbo takes a few seconds longer to reach the same compression level. SC is faster off the line because of that.
