Dudes and Dudas,
How is everyone saving to buy stuff for their SC? I have a huge *** plastic cookie jar with the lid glued with industrial strenght adhesive. the only way to get the money out is to cut it open. im about 1/4 of the way up with dollars and coins. Mostly quarters and silver dollars and SACAJEWA's. Im guessing its like a good 100-200 dollars in there. with plenty of space to go. About 1 foot more vertically and 3/4 of a foot horizontal. It weights a good 30-50 pounds. Too heavy to lift. Too heavy to try to steal it and run off with it. In the front it has THUNDERBIRD SC FUND. ALL DONATIONS WELCOMED. TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
I force everyone in the house to leave any spare change in there. Any change lying around and i toss it in there. Hopefully when i fill it up. Its enough to buy me a whipple or AR kit.

You can't save money if you have an SC.

I set aside a certain amount from my check each week. Not for SC parts, but just to save in general. From there the money is used as savings for I guess a rainy day, major repair, or down payment on a house (or 2007 Shelby Cobra :D). The rest of the money left over is then used for expenses like food and gas and entertainment.
For SC mods I can only justify like maybe $10-20 a week and it comes out of the left over money. I need to I guess get a lock box or start up a seperate account that I can transfer money into and not touch it for about a year or two and then when the time comes depending on how much I have set asside I can either get greedy and let it build, or buy some go-fast parts.
What has happened so far, I will buy the cheaper stuff like $200 or less and then when something breaks I will spend more to upgrade rather than just replace.
My girlfriend and I live together and I we are getting ready to start up joint checking and savings accounts at her credit union. So now it will be harder for me to horde money aside since she will have complete disclosure on "our" finances. I guess I could set up dual deductions at work if they will let me and put like 15% into my savings account and she'd never know. I could tell her my insurance premiums went up in cost to cover the smaller deposits in our account....

When something breaks, out comes the credit card to put in something better. Hopefully, it gets paid down before the next thing breaks.
Of course when something breaks, there's 5 other things that need upgraded to make sure it doesn't fail again.
Then there's the 'preventive' upgrades. Like the LM-1 wide band and aux. input (about $500 total) and MP FMIC (got in on the Xmas group buy for $1100 couple years ago).
Basically, I have a certain amount of 'play money' from each check. It gets spread between the dirt track car, truck, SC, Cougar and bike in about that order. Usually I don't get past the dirt tracker anymore, but the SCs pretty stuffed already.

I try to pay all my bill first then put the rest of my pay check in the bank minus gas and food money plus date money as well. It can add up fast depending on what happens that month and if I go out at all. All I know is I plan to buy parts for the stroker as I can afford them.

I think one of the keys to saving money while driving an SC is to have spare parts all the time. For example thursday night the fuel pump went out on my 91 SC at work and I had to have it towed home that night :( . I didn't have to spend the $100 for a new pump because I already had a complete fuel pump assembly sitting around at my house for well over a year so the next day I just swapped the assemblies out.
