I was at the gas station last night in Virginia Beach and I went in to get a bottle of water and pay for my gas. I saw a truck pull up and the guy was pumping gas in it. As I walk out to my car, I see he is standing there looking at my car and walking around the back of it.
He says "Nice SC". I told him thanks. He said he used to have a black 89 5-speed but he sold it after he replaced the 2nd set of head gaskets. He said he kicks himself in the *** everytime he sees one because it was the best car he has ever driven other than the fact that he blew his head gaskets twice. I told him about my black SC and my big block project. I was surprised he even commented on my silver SC since the hood and trunk are primer, and there is a 4x6" spot on the lower half of my drivers door that I just sanded down, taped off, and primed to fix a spot of rust. I told him I'm going to be painting it this summer and he told me that its cool that I do all the work on my car and that if he had the ability he would probably still have his SC.
It turns out he was from Michigan as well although he grew up in the upper peninsula (U.P.).
I talked with the guy for about 10 minutes and then when I got back in the car my girlfriend told me that I am officially sick in the head. I told her that if someone wants to talk about SC's with me I could go on all day. To her its a nice car and she likes them alot, but to me its more than that, its a passion. I don't care if my car is in need of a paint job, when I look at it I see what its going to look like in the near future, not what it looks like right now. I know some people think its just an old tbird, but then again they just don't get it.
About two weeks ago I was at the gas station getting gas and a younger guy in a pizza delivery car walks up and starts asking me about my SC. He says his friend has a blue one w/ yellow stripes and lives in the virginia beach area. I told him I haven't seen it around or seen his friend on the message boards for the local chapter but that I'd like to see it. He says that he loves these cars and he wished me luck on w/ the paint job.
In Michigan the car only got attention from my friends or every once in a while someone who remembered the cars from back in the day. To most though its just an old car, but there are still some people out there that know what it is or at least remember it as being something special.
Now if I had a 1966 Mustang I'm sure I'd get people asking about it all the time, but then again I'm sure there are more of those on the road in this area than there are SC's.
