Windshield removal

How the %@&$ do remove the windshiel without cracking it. I went to a junkyard and cracked 3 of them before giving up. I tried a wire and one of those removal tools. The old cars used to use a black gooey stuff that cut easy. But the Tbirds use this hard rubber seal. Trying to cut it puts too much pressure on the glass and it cracks. I went as slowly as I could. Got it about 1/4 loose and CRACK. Is there a solvent for the adhesive? How do you guys do it?

We've done quite a few at my shop, and we always just use piano wire to cut through the adhesive. I recommend using two people, one inside and one outside the car. Hold onto the piano wire with vise grips, and work it in and out in a sawwing motion. Be careful not to put pressure on the glass.

We've never broken one that way.
