racecougar is the person you need to be in contact with. He has done a 4V 4.6 swap in his 89 XR7 before.
Some things you will need to change is the entire fuel system on your car. The cobra motor features returnless fuel system unlike our cars. Other than that you just have all the odds and ends left to do that is typical of a motor swap.
Oh the tranny is going to be about 6 inches to short as well.

The tranny is phyically about 6 inches to short. The shifter will come up to right about where the heater controls are. Now if your SC was gutted and you had no heater than it wouldn't be to big of a problem. Plus you will have to fab up a mount for the tranny kmember as it to has to be moved forward. Now if I were you I would find yourself a good used M5R2 out of say a 97-04 F-150 with a 4.6L under the hood. It will bolt up to the 03 cobra motor but the only thing you will have to do is swap the tail shafts (the F-150 tranny is a top loader) and all the internals and then there is no more short tranny problem. I was going to do this when I was thinking about swapping in a 4V motor in my 35th way back when.
Now if you do go this route of the F-150 tranny I call dibs on the T56 that you wont be needing.

I think Brian Herron. and another guy worked on this swap for a little
over a year,Then gave up.I don't remembr the guy's name that
owned the SCbird. Some of the St Louis people would know more
about what problems they ran into or what happined to stop
there project..
Good luck Randy

**** THAT. Get the motor and computer and harness, don't buy the trans. Get a 4R70W from Performance Automatic. They have built many for 9 and 10 second 03-04 Cobras. Its a popular swap along with a solid rear axle for the cobras. One guy here has it done and has the new 2.4L KB blowzilla on his Cobra and is running 9's.
Livernois Motorsports, or Alternative Automotive Performance are in Michigan and should be able to perform the swap. That is there business, building bad *** V8 stangs. If they can swap that motor into SN95's and Fox bodies, I don't see why they can't do it to a tbird. You pull out the old stuff, put in the new stuff. Cap off the return lines in the tank. Or put in a fuel cell in the trunk.
It's not gonna be cheap, but if you can afford the motor and want to go fast, I'd say let them do the swap since they are familiar with it. If I had the greenbacks I'd be on their doorstep tomorrow.
Plus with the automatic, you can get better ET's and no wheel hop. It would be fast as ****!

But see here the slushbox takes all the fun out of driving the car. Yes I realize the auto is faster in the 1320 but its just so boring. Just my opinion though.

Key word: MONEY
Thats why I am resorting to stroker SBF power instead. Its cheaper too.

slushbox, a PA 4R70W will have your neck muscles hurting after a full throttle run.

I dont doubt that one bit but I would be using the car for the twisties and the slushbox just wont cut it.

If I could run 10's at the drop of the throttle I think I'd make do with the automatic. I'm not that picky. I do enjoy a 5-speed at times, but I prefer an automatic. Ok lets rephrase that, I prefer an automatic in a car with a lot of horsepower as long as the automatic has a shift kit or a performance oriented valve body. But in like a 4-cyl car or something that has had its nuts clipped off you better give me a stick. It makes slow cars feel less slow.

I think the F-Body LS1 T56 will fit much better than the Ford T56. McLeod makes a bell-housing that adapts from the Ford modular 4.6/5.4 block to the LS1 tranny for about $450 (p/n 8730-06)

If you go that route the LS1 tranny will be about a few inches short not like six inches with the Ford T56.

UPR and tri-ax make upper shifter handles that relocate the knob a full inch rearward too. I've got one in my SC for extra clearance when my monitor folds out of the dash. That would be a cheap way to score another inch.
