View Full Version : Kenny Brown Strut Tower Brace~~~GROUP BUY

Ricks SC
05-04-2005, 08:41 PM
I recently purchased the rights and jigs to all of Kenny Browns line of suspension products. I would like to offer a group buy on the STB. This will be a pre-sale and allow 2-4 weeks for delivery. If I can get 20 prepaid orders I can sell the unit for $120 plus $20 for shipping, as a GB to club members.
These units will be made from Kenny Browns jigs and will be the exact same as the one's they produced. I later will be offering all of the other products that KB offered and can do the same thing if this works out. I will accept checks, mo and PayPal as payment. I am really looking forward to getting this started and this will be a great opportunity for everone. Please email all questions, concerns and suggestions.

Rick G.

I think you should post the payment options/details now. Reason being, we will get 20 people, so we can get a jump on it now and start coordinating payment while the last three trickle in. This way we won't have to wait another month for the payments to accumulate. Of course, if you don't need all 20 payments in full before completing the orders and instead you process them as they are paid for, then this logic is out the window. Having 20 people say, "yeah I want one" and having 20 people say "Yeah I want one and here is my money" is another thing. My point is, now we'll have to start a list of those that have paid. Would have saved time to just have us pay right away. Knowing of course that we will get 20 people.

Since the STB won't ship until several weeks after all payments have been received, can you make mine black in color? Originally, I had asked for it to be primered only b/c the "master plan" was to have it painted the same time I had my Cervini's hood painted, thus matching the car color. I can't wait that long to have the hood finished, so black it is I guess.

Of course I haven't even factored in the actual manufacturing of the parts. Somehow WE have to come up with a way that will weed out people that have champagne taste and beer wallets, it's not fair to either party when folks say yes and then don't follow up, now we are in a situation were it is economically unfeasible for the MAN to build these things and were are having to figure out how to get re-imbursed. Anybody have any ideas how we can do this? I am being stung by someone as of this posting, and it happened before here. Yes, you can use your credit card and you have recourse, you can use the United States Postal System and have recourse, but what about this situation, do we only buy from registered SCers? Are we all reputable, this is getting to the point we MUST come up with a PLAN. W.L.

Hey all
First of all I don't think that Rick is out to burn any of us. I bought a Kenny Brown engine cradle off of him through ebay and he was very professional. What I think maybe someone should do is p.m. the people that said they wanted them to find out what is going on. Maybe a job for Rick. Also how about a post in the general forums that can be kept up the list to make people aware of the group buy. I am sure not everybody checks the group buys as much. With a 1000+ members there has to be 10 more out there it just needs to be known. just my $.02 1/2 cents worth.

The issue isn't with Rick. It is with those that said they wanted a brace and now are nowhere to be found come time to pay. I don't think we should burden Rick with chasing down the money. I suggest we get a volunteer forum member to get with those that said they wanted a brace and have not paid yet. For some this may be a swear word, but this is kinda why the TCCOA has a person designated to organize the group buys.

Rick:

Your list of paid individuals gives their first names and not their handles. If you can let me know who they are, I'll figure out the 10 that have yet to pay and then take it upon myself to "attempt" to contact these people and have them send their money. I hope no takes this personally as I do have good intentions here and don't wish to come across as a nag. It's the risk I run I guess.

I should reply before I get stoned to death. I would like to hold out until all four peices I am interested in become available. Why? Due to me being in Canada it costs $69 in shipping fees. $69 x 4 or $69 for one time? :)

will the brace fit over a 3/4 raised top? thanks!

Jimmy 2Coupes
06-20-2005, 09:54 PM
Just some information I have. I purchased a Kenny Brown STB probable five or six years ago and had no problems with it clearing a 3/4" raised top. But when I put a Magnum Powers inlet plenum on my car it didn't clear the throttle body (75mm). I had to shim it with three washers for each bolt and it still rubbed on the intake tube to throttle body boot. I have since installed some Super Coupe performance stock height solid motor mounts and have yet to try and put the STP back on but I believe these motor mounts are still a little taller than stock although I could be wrong on that. Bottom line is, if you have a Magnum Powers inlet plenum and non stock height solid motor mounts on your SC you'll most likely have clearance issues with the STP unless the design is tweeked a little.

Has anyone with an MP inlet plenum successfully installed the brace? I test fit mine and had to add a 7/16" shim under it to allow it to clear the MP plenum and 85mm TB. Unfortunately, this causes the hood pistons to hit the shimmed bracket when closing. I'm not overly concerned with this as I'll be putting the Cervini hood on and will just remove the pistons and use a prop rod. I would have liked to have installed this brace sooner than later, but that's not gonna happen due to this fitment issue.

I know tolerance is an individual thing, but I wouldn't worry if I were you. Rick will come through. He's just busy. I had to wait almost 4 months after having paid for my STB b4 receiving it, but this is b/c I got in on the group buy in its infancy. I bought one of his LECB off E-bay and it took about 6- 8 weeks.

The next round of LECB's will be done very soon. Also, will be tackling the (Front suspension braces, rear torsional braces and others)soon. Will be making a rear shock tower brace and subframe connectors.
If anyone needs to contact me please email me at (rmg1968@msn.com).
