My SC is making me nervous. Its got a rattling/vibration coming from the drivers side valve cover. I'm leaving tomorrow for Michigan. I am leary about making the 13 hour drive w/ the car making noise. I only have a small set of sockets here so I can't really do much work on the car.

I was wondering if any of you guys that might have the day off and some tools would be interested in helping me pull my IC tube off and get the drivers side valve cover off and have a look as to what may be the cause of the noise. I'm thinking it sounds like a rocker arm is loose and rattling. The car still has power so I'm sure the valves are all opening.

I'll even order us a pizza for lunch or something to offset the use of tools. I want to come out to Jenro's tonight, but the car is embarassing me. None the less I'll be there. Maybe in my girlfriends Cavalier Z24 if I don't get this SC figured out.

So let me know, give me a call (269)369-2381. Or email me at scott-long@yahoo.com I don't have access to this site all day, only for a few hours this morning. But I can check my email from the cell phone.

I was going to go buy a set of tools and try to fix the car myself, but why spend the money on a complete socket set when I have a full set of tools back home and I'll be there tomorrow night.

Well it made it back to michigan ok. I have the valve cover off and I can't see anything wrong that would cause noise. I'm stumped.

Did you move back for good or just visiting up there picking up the rest of your stuff? I never gave your girl a ride in the Lightning...

I might be moving back in the fall. We are both having car problems now that we are back so I have to get this **** figured out first, then plan on doing it right next time since before I just "showed up" and surprised her family.

We are going to be getting married so then maybe they'll accept me.

And she wants a ride in the lightning when we get back. We missed you both weekends up at Newport and Jenro's. Did your wife have the baby yet?

couold it be your alternator ?,or anything accessories related. If you drove it anydistance without engine problems then it must be something else rattling in the same area . just my 2 cents .

One of your tapet bolts could be loose. Depending on of the tapet is up or down, the bolt could be tight in the up position but loose to the point of rattling on the down position. I had a tapping sound in my valve cover last year. I ID'ed it by taking a long thin wooden stick from a broom and put one end on my valvecover and the other end to my ear and pinpointed the sound to the exact cylinder, #4 :D The sound vibrations traveled though the wood...if you've never done that trick, it was very useful. I reloosen and then tightened each tapet bolt to spec and the sound went away. If you do that, don't forget to do it as per the book...each tapet on the compresion stroke I belive...so you have to turn the motor for each one. If you knew that already then disregard :D I just want to make sure you knew.

Good luck...I'm still trying to figure out my problem. After I got home a couple weeks ago from my starter ****tin' the bed, the idle and power went tits up too. After replacing everything spark related me, my dad, and Z could think of, I am going to replace my fuel pump and pressure reg with a 255 and adj reg. hoping that the problem is fuel delivery.

Later,
Anthony
