What's your top speed? (in 5th Gear rpm)

I topped out in 5th gear at 3200rpms.

Well, at least I think it tops out there. I wasn't any road where I could get it up to speed any higher. It seems to crawl very slowly once it gets to 3199 rpm's. I basically held the pedal to the medal for about 5 to 8 seconds waiting for it to go faster than 3200 rpm's.

Anyone know the calculator for that speed?

I think I should sell these cars as professionally rebuilt hovercrafts. Here's my slogan " Fast and Reliable ".

The '93 is in Stock-Re-built" condition. Everything is rebuilt to stock condition, except the Piston's are 0.020 over, the lifters are the cheap ones available in the Sumit magazine, and the wheelbearings are from NAPA, (you get the picture).

Tires = BRGoodRich KDWS on stock rims (thin wave design)

Pontiac Air Dam, Shortened A/C condenser.

New Windshield = good for 5 mental horsepower.

Simple solution to find out how fast you are going. Find out what highway the state troopers are going down, get it going as fast as she will go, then hold it there and wait till you pass a trooper, im sure he will tell you how fast you are going. :D

In Ohio, I got a ticket. The paperwork for the ticket showed 2 types of speeding. up to 20 miles over the limit, and 20 + over the limit. I got 20+, so that's 110.00

I pack a scanner, so when they phone for backup, i'll hear how fast they think i'm going. Anybody ever crimped an interceptor's tailpipe? I dont whanna stop them from pursueing evil, I would just like to have more time to declare the car stolen, as I'm running through the bushes.

Probably somewhere between 120-125mph if your tires are stock diameter. It would have gone faster in 4th. 4800rpm in 4th would have been about 140.

Yeah, the scanner would have been a good idea. but I think I drove right past him b/c I was so tired. I made the trip in 2 days and 4 hours. Next time, I think I'll spend the hundred bucks on a hotel room and a nice breakfast. People who drive fast are not evil.

Dave, I would have figured that it would be faster than only 120mph, b/c I've pegged my speedo before (in 5th gear) so, that's definately faster than 125mph.

I used to get 90 mph at 2300 rpms in 5th.

You do the math then. :p

I remember shifting out of 4th into 5th and just watching the tach fall. It would slowly drop so I shifted back into 4th. There isn't enough power at that engine speed to overcome drag in 5th gear.

Jeff

Just like those really cool Italian cars, xxx top speed (drag limited).

Dave, if I knew how to do the math I wouldn't have asked for help. :p :)

i did it out....if my calculations are correct (totally a star trek line haha) then at 5000rpm's in 5th gear it should be 196ish ??? sound right?

That's about right I remember calculating it before and it was very close to 200mph.

Jeff

it would depend on your reaer end ratio mine is 2.73 and 2 grand is about 80 so 3 grand should be around 120 and 3200 would be closer to 130 or 135 . mine seems to keep picking up even at that speed i always get scared and lift

Here are RPM's versus speed for all five gears in an 89-93 M5R2 with 2.73 gearing and stock tires. It's from a gear calculator I programmed myself.

Code:
800 6 10 16 23 31
900 7 11 18 26 35
1000 8 13 20 29 39
