I grow tired of fussing with "stock" intercoolers and thier wierd pipe routing, I'm looking into something I can fab up into an FMIC kit and I came across the link above and others like these...

I'm seeing these at 3-4" thick, bar and plate design, often quoted with less than 1psi pressure drop @ 15psi and I wonder just how bad can they be? Is the $900+ "official" FMIC kit that much better than these ~$200 units? Just how Inefficient can a brand new 24" wide 3" thick bar and plate IC with 2.5/3" inlets and outlets be?

Anyone have any experience with these? I wonder how they stack up to say a double supercoupe IC.

anything is better than a stock ic, even a double IC is as ineffecient as the oem one. i think the double ic is kinda dumb and is a waste of money. just make ur own! and read up on the guys feedback. buy one from someone who looks more trustworthy

A friend installed one in his Turbo Regal a few months back. Seems to work OK although we don't have any solid info to back it up. The car has gone 12.91@115 since that install with a converter that was so tight it wouldn't get any boost on the line but then would practically pull the wheels at the 60ft mark. That has since been changed but then the trans started slipping shortly after. That was fixed and now the engine knocks a bit at idle. Someday a good pass will get done :)
