The car is up on ramps and in a place where the water doesn't have anywhere to run if I hose it down. From what I remember any degreaser needs to be washed off. Anyone know of something that will cut through the grease and doesn't need to be rinsed off?
Any reason I can't use something like 409 in a spray bottle?
Any suggestions?
Also has anyone relocated their battery to the trunk? If so, what kit did you use?

Thanks,

Kurt

Kurt if you want something to cut the grease that is water soluable, then I would suggest Castrol Super Cleaner. It can be purchased from K-Mart in the automotive section. That stuff will cut through the toughest grease. I use it for degreasing everything from BBQ grills to auto parts. If you use it on the car, be really careful not to get any on the paint. It will etch or even remove some paint. I am speaking from experience on that matter :D
Many peole have asked how I keep the underside of the hood(engine compartment) so clean. I use the Castrol Super Cleaner or Wesley's Bleash White to clean off the graese and grime before detailing.
My brother can attest to how well that Castrol cleaner will clean up the engine compartment. The 93 SC he is presently doing the HG's on was a real mess when he got it. Now it is pretty clean due to the Castrol cleaner.

Don't know of anything that doesn't need to be rinsed off.
Good luck!

Wesley's Bleash White to clean off the graese and grime before detailing.
I learned about the Wesley's from talking to you at one of the meets. Unfortunately that is all I know about engine cleaning. :D But I have reached places that apparently I didn't get clean from the top with everything together.
I think I'll just try the 409. I probably used several hundred gallons of it in the Navy. If it's good enough for a Nuke plant, it should be good enough for a greasy V6 I guess. :p

I would think 409 should work fairly well after all it does clean up greasy messes in the kitchen.
Have fun!

Ahh, my meat...Just be aware that all those highly alkaline degreasers mentioned WILL stain aluminum if used full strength and left on those parts a bit too long if they're hot or even warm. This is a "detailers given".

Best to dilute them a good deal, or use a citrus based cleaner/degreaser instead.

Have fun, show us some pics. :)

I will dilute it and there is no concern about the engine being even a bit warm at this point, unless I scrub it way too hard.
