Should car die when running and pull the MAF plug?

i think i heard somewhere that if the mass air flow meter was good, and you pulled the plug on it while running, the car would die. I tried this on my car and it kept running, so just seein if thats true.
 
when mine started idling at 2000 i pulled the plug and it idled down to 800. since it changed rpm i figured maf was working then i found out iac was bad causing my problem. i never had iac problems in 225 k miles and no check engine light i couldnt believe it went bad
