Battery Light

I'm at work or else I would check a manual. On the way here the battery light on the dash came on. When I stopped I checked the cables and they were still connected, is the only other culprit the alternator? The battery is only a few months old, four at tops. Thanks for any help.

Yup. The light really can't tell you anything about the battery itself, its a charging system problem. You need to take a voltmeter and check the voltage across the battery posts while the engine is idling. Note, not the battery terminals, but the battery posts themselves. Should be reading 13.4 - 14 V.

If you have low voltage, move one of the probes to the battery terminals. If the voltage goes up, then you have poor/dirty contacts between the terminals and the posts. Clean and tighten. If the voltage stays the same and is low, then the alternator is not putting out. Check its connections, or the belt.
