took my sc in for a dying in gear problem
when they got it to run they said it was kicking back
this damaged the flywheel and starter
before i put it all back together i need a clue whats wrong with it
i believe they said it was running fine then it started doing this
they tried a couple times
i dont believe its a sensor i had it running in the garage
any ideas
plugged cats?????

Sounds like a cam sensor? When my cat got cloged I did not know it happened the car ran great 15+ lbs of boost then WAM the HG'S blew when I droped the y-pipe herd some rattleing checked it out and the cat was shattered on the failed HG side.

Jim, when my cat was clogged, it shook the engine like the balancer might be bad. It would idle rough and rev up fine in park or neutral, but in gear it was a dog. No power at all.

If you didn't mind cutting the exhaust up, it might be worth doing to check the cats.

To get it to kick back and damage the starter it would only happen when the starter is engaged. It could not ever hit the starter while the motor is running unless the starter is messed up and holding the drive gear out after the motor is running. The usual problem of kick back is timing related, usually to much inital timing.

And this is what kind of transmission? Flywheel implies 5 speed, but I just want to be sure.

What does "kicking back" mean?
What type of "damage" does the starter have?
What type of "damage" does the flywheel have?

What is the status of the car now that you have to put it back together?

to answer the questions the car is an auto i know its a flex plate but i said flywheel
the starter teeth (new starter) are chewed up
the flex plate teeth are the same
the car was shaking almost backfire the mechanice refered to it as a kick back
ive always delt with this shop so i know their not scam artists
the engine was shaking violently like when the balancer broke
that was recently replace

the car began having issues when i put a new water pump back on it
i hope someone else can help me out me and quck35th are gonna get the flywheel on it in the spring and hopefully get it running a clue to why its doing this would be nice to start by

thank you
Jim
