What's all the problems anyone here have been experiencing with Ford remanufactured 3.8's? I've read some scary threads here lately and now i am getting very nervous about mine. Mine is running good for now, but, i can hear slightly louder than normal tapping noises (not rod knock- more like several lifters tapping louder than usual) that sounds like it's coming from the bottom end, especially on the driver's side.
This '90 SC i just bought has an SCP exhaust which i just had to seal up, and it has the infamous bosch dbl plat spark plugs (will change to autolites soon) that i also tightened up hoping to get rid of that noise. i was hoping it's just an exhaust leak or loose spark plug. My car sounds like an old truck, but it idles perfectly.
Does the SCP exhaust with downtubes and cats normally make the internal engine mechanical sounds louder than a stock exhaust? Could the bosch plugs naturally leak exhaust and make it sound like that? This is really scaring me, and i don't know what else to do. It runs beautifully though- maybe theres nothing to worry about.
any opinions, experiences?
thanks-
