Lentech got my trans last friday. They are sending me back a new
valve body, new case, and new foregot the spelling,And a new smaller
forgot the spelling, and some beefed up parts.

They had it on the dyno this morning and shipped out at noon.
That some fast service. And going into a fast car! :)

Maybe I CAN make the shootout .I will be taken names of the
St Louis guys this year,Starten with names with the letter K-Ks.
then work my way up to the N's. :)

Well I can dream it any way. :)

Randy,

Glad your getting the car fixed in time for the Shootout.

I've been doing a few mods on my car too, just in case the turbo car isn't ready for the shootout.

Thanks every one.I ask for there opinion on what happin this round.
They said they had to replace the case .I am not sure why.I have
been installing them right.just bad luck.I am very happy that
Lentech was able to fix my trans so fast. And I just had to pay for
shipping to and back.

I haven't had the time to get all my parts installed because of the
trans problems. I was wanting to get my glass doors, trunk lid on
and painted.but missed my appointment at the bodyshop.

And I still need a tune, before I can drive to OK Shootout.Because
I have a new raised manifold ,waiting on the blower, injector,MAF
,throttle body. That I was hoping to get together and installed
this next week.

Still trying to get the max power, plus E.T. numbers. I can get
from a stock long block with Fords basic designed & by
following the shootout rules. My goal is a 13.0-,I am sure I will
not make it,but thats my goal.

Its looking like the hard part is getting my SC to run. The same
time a shootout race is being held.I am wanting to run the 13.0-
with a M90 blower case.Once I start bolting on SUPERCOUPE
UNLIMITED blower parts 13.0- will be easy.

I am hoping to get my parts all installed and a tune before the
OK Shootout. This will be my last chance before I install a new
motor next spring. To see what I can squeeze out of this old
stock long block. If I don't get it going for the shootout.I will
just half to go over to St.Louis track and see what I can get
out of it this fall.

Any way I have my fingers crossed for my part installation
and tune before the shootout. And If I get this done its
going to be great to see and meet you all and party at the
OK SHOOTOUT.

Thanks Randy

P.S. David N. it would be nice to be able to see both of
your Birds burn down the track at the shootout.

Well, what I'm thinking is that Chris Wise isn't doing anything that weekend so he ought to come and drive the V6 car. Hey, no THERE'S an idea. :D

That sound like a good idea.Since MY Wt. is 296.I don't care who
is driving to meet my goal.I am more interested in what my wrenchs
do anyway. Its a personal goal not for any list any way.

I don't know how to get ahold of Chris W..
Somebody give him a call,I will give him a ride.
What are you doing that weekin Dave D..
Or do you know how to drive a AOD.
I know how to rip them apart. :D

Dave,

Funny you should mention that. After we got the new cam installed yesterday, Chris offered to do just that. Kathy is even talking about bringing two cars this year. I asked if she was going to drive/race the 91 if I brought it and she said Hell No !

She's afraid of breaking it...Chris isn't and any time he drives my car it always goes 2 tenths quicker. I guess I'm the only one who isn't too wild about the idea of bringing both cars (twice as much to go wrong). Considering my Shootout track record, I'll be very lucky to have just one car running right on race day. So the choice of what car to bring will likely take care of itself.

How many multi car teams are going to show up this year at the shootout?

Daivid D.
David N.
pro-street R.
The sign guy from CO.

Maybe there should be an award for who can drive the most SC's/XR7s
that weekin.

Then we got Kurt K.,He takes two trophies home with just one car. ;)
That means the above people would need to take home four trophies
just to catch up with him.Let along beat him.

I think my car would be to slow for Chris W..He would get bored &
fall asleep before he got to the finish line.

I'm blushing :D I doubt I will abuse my car with 2 events. Hmmm, too bad Jenn can't drive a 5 speed....maybe I should bring 2 cars too

I'm just hoping to be competitive this year. I'll have to wait and see.

The reason this trans went out is because the case broke.
The case fractured when I floored the car.

So you people that bring up the TV cable to are flat wrong.
About me and not knowing how to adjust a TV cable.

The truth is AODs are a weak worthless design.Even if you build
one with the right parts ,adjust it right ,they will break the case.
I think this is why another trans failed.I am spliting the insides
of the transmissions case or housing.Or spiting the lock ring off.
I went with the spial lock rings. Now the cases are splitting.

That snap ring is what failed in my trans and it was stock. So yes, there are some issues in the AOD. (the rebulider put the spiral lock in it on rebuild)

I've seen the bell housing cracked on Chevy dragsters due to excess movement in the motor mounts. If you're cracking cases simply due to power being put through it, something is wrong with the way the trans is built. The point of failure in your driveline shouldn't be the transmission.

U-joints, CV Joints, yokes all should break before anything in the trans. Something with the internal gear sets is allowing too much power to be trapped inside that unit.

I guess I'm assuming you're not running tubbed rear with huge slicks, some super upgraded axle shafts, stronger side gears, and bigger u-joints and yokes.

Randy

Randy,

Maybe that car is making more power than you think. I've never seen anyone tear up an AOD as fast as you can. I've been abusing mine for years and haven't had any problems. And it's just a local performance build with a bunch of Lentech parts added on.

Could be that somebody has a little transmission vodo doll with your name on it. Try killing a chicken and doing the spider dance before driving it again. That's how I fixed my valvetrain problems. ;)

Well I have the car set up that it will turn on fast.
But I can only get so much air through the stock heads & cam.
So I don't have that much power.Max 270- rwhp.

I talked to Len he said he has went through 4 trans in a row.
Its just bad luck I am having.I know It has nothing to do with
his work.It started before I ran there parts. He says, I must be
just paying my AOD dues. And This one will not go south any
time soon. For some reason, I have no plans to hold my breath.

I think I should be able to get around 50 to 60 drag practice
pass's instead of 2 to 5 per trans.

Two trans seem to go south about the time i hit the
rev limiter. This one was from just coming off the line
3 to 4 times. But acted the same as the last one when it
went.

Maybe its Tim thats got the black SC VO-DOO car doll.
Maybe he's mad,Since his car with ported heads cam ,etc
can't keep up.With my black bullet,Black force of one.:)

Tim
I have been racing long enough Tim.I have heard the daughter
is getting married excuse before. For a no show at the track. :)
Your just like me,You can't keep the peice of zhit running long
enough to make a trip to the track.

I know if I would sell the car.It would run a 100,000 miles
for somone else.

I have or on its way ,every part except pistons ,rods,& cam
bought to build another motor that I would hope to be over
400 rwhp.Plus the body parts to make the car light.I have
my welded heads, plus a set of Steg welded heads on
the way.But its hard to do any more with this transmission
& tuning problems.I feel like quiting more every other day.
The car just cost to much for the performance return.I am
sure that I am not going to finish my other motor,And just
start selling the extra parts I have made & bought.

I was just building to drive to a couple car shows and maybe
4 or 5 pass's at a dragrace a year.But that seems to be a lot
to ask from A SC bird.

Mike ,698500573569152394857771055616849638296379xwz,
I run drag radials all the time.Nittos

Randy if this new tranny of yours breaks on you again you seriously need to change to something else. I would say stop beating around the bush with these AODs and get yourself a nice 5spd tranny for your car. Then maybe Dave can drive your car ;)

Shane
I have been thinking about just selling the car .
Or at least the motor back to the trans. The trans is
not good enough to hold up,and I am not able to
tune the motor. So to me that makes these parts
of a SC over priced ,worthless junk to me.

This 90 SC Thunderbird is the biggest mistake I have
ever made in buying cars.I just feel like a dumbass
for ever buying this car.I have never spent this much
money on a car,and still have nothing.Even if the trans
works out I am still not smart enough to be able to
tune the car.

Thanks Randy

Oh Randy dont be so hard on yourself bro, everything will be ok. I am sure Dalke can tune your SC for you no problem. And besides if you do deside to sell it there are some things on it that I would be more than happy to buy off you. I think if you get tired of the V6 you should put a screaming V8 in it and a 5spd tranny.

Shane

Randy N Connie

Shane I will be selling some new parts soon.
I will give you a PM when I do.(example)A
couple thing that will be sold are,MPII MagIII
blowers,with modified manifold/plenum &
raised manifold/plenum.I have MAF,TB,Injectors,
chip,OD pulley ,etc to go with the MPII blower.
So it will be bolt-on with nothing else to purchase.
Also two sets of welded heads, one set being
Welded Steg heads new never bolted on.Both
sets are brand new never bolted on after modified.

The MPII started 4000 miles ago being a brand new
blower turned into a MPII.I believe a person would be
hard pressed to find one in better shape as this one.
The MP MagIII has never been bolted on.both blowers
and plenums are polished.

Got my new Lentech transmission back this morning.
Hope to have my SCBird back running by thursday. :)

David Dalke stopped by yesturday on his way to deliver
a car in Kansas.I think he is tuning some car in St Lois
today or tommarrow. So since I missed two tuning
sessions. My trans should work great until the next
tuning session in my area.Every time I have made
an oppointment to get a chip burnt. My transmissions
burn out a few days before the tuning session.

So just to keep my transmission in good shape.I will
never make or try to get my car tuned again. :)
