Torque Converter

I own a 1990SC with an AOD. After 145K+ miles the tranny finally went out along with the torque converter. The transmission guy said that since the torque converter broke, it somehow messed up the engine because now the engine knocks. My question is, can a failing torque converter affect the engine or is he trying to find more problems with the car to get more money from me.

Thanks,

I've never heard of that either. You could possibly have a cracked Flywheel( Flexplate ) that could be knocking. I have seen that before.

Thanks for the help guys. Yes, the engine did have a very light knock before the tranny problems, but a fellow SC ownere who heard it and had the same knock with his SC said it was because of a leaking EGR pipe. The transmission guy is saying it's a different and louder knock. I'll have to go and listen to it I guess. Again, thanks for the help guys.
