u-joints

Am in the process of changing to a late model gas tank, have 175,000 miles on the car and the u-joints are stock. I can feel no play in them, should I change the joints while I got it apart? And is there anything else I should change while I'm apart. Already did the fuel pump

Its really your call. I went ahead and replaced mine when I swapped out the tranny because of the time involved just in case. But, the old Ujoints had plently of life left in them with 180,000 miles.

U-joints

If they feel okay (move smoothly and no play) I would leave them. Mine were replaced at 99,000km (60,000mi) when the tranny was rebuilt under warranty. That was 10 years ago and the car now has 314,000km. Still going strong. I don't think the U-joints are an issue on these cars. They line up fairly straight, and the differential as you know if a fixed unit. The half shafts do all the work as the rear suspension travels up and down. Yah, can't believe it. That many miles on mine, and I haven't exactly been nice to them.
