I took off the driver's side exhaust manifold and couldn't find a gasket between it and the cylinder head. I don't believe that the manifold was ever removed before. Can anyone shed light on this?
Dave, thanks for replying. Can I reinstall the manifold without a gasket or RTV? I took it off just to get to one of the engine mount bolts that will not budge.
You can re-install them without a gasket or any sealer, as long as you havent ground down or nicked the smooth surface's. I replaced a cracked manifold on one of my 93's and it never had an issue.
But sometimes they warp, so you may want to install a gasket just to be sure you won't have any leaks. Personally, I would rather spend $25 or so on gaskets than even remove 1 intercooler pipe, 1 time, when I didn't have to.
