View Full Version : 2006 Shootout Announcement!

For 2006 lets try and get some major SCCoO representation at the shootout which hopefully will be closer to us. We have 12 months to plan and commit for it. Pretty early to be talking about it you say, yes but if you can't commit and plan for it now chances are you won't commit 6-8 months from now. So plan now:
Save $25/wk that would be enough to pay for the trip.
Kiss your parents/wife/kids/girlfriend/boyfriend/dogs/boss's a$$. If you have to be good for a year so you can play for a few days of the shootout it'd be worth it. :D Book your vacations early!
If you make a committment to go next year and you back out you will be required to produce a note from your parents/teacher/doctor/wife/bank. :p
Get your cars running and leave it alone, stop messin with it.
Seriously, unforseen things happen and is understandable but make a serious resolution to go next year and work at it. Even if you don't want to abuse your car you could still go as a spectator and I'm sure you could catch a ride down with somebody. So seriously think about going next year. Anybody brave enough to commit now. :D
I'm going again this year with Ed even though I have no business being there financially or competitively but...ehh you only live once.
List so far:

Allright cool, now we are up to 3 participants all we need is 12 more (one for every month till the 2006 shootout). How about it, Ryan, Jason, Craig, Eric, Ian, Greg and others? I'm calling you guys out to play.
Craig if you like we could sign an affadavit that you WONT be racing and give it to your wife. :D

I really suck at commitment
Funny isn't that what your gf said. :D Great I'll add you to the list Eric, sounds like we could have a good group for next year. Any of you other guys want to join in on this, would be a lot of fun convoying down in a large group.
There was talk this year could be the last shootout but if we could come up with 15 guys who WILL go (almost half the field of this year) do you think the Shootout committee will change their minds. ;)

I'd like to be able to say "yes I'm in". But I have no idea if that will work out fo rme or not.
Put me down for a maybe, and depending on where its being held at. I plan on skipping the trip to Carilse in 06, so I should have enough holiday time left over for a weekend away. I wish I had of went last year, but I was flat arse broke.

At the risk of sounding negative, I have to say that I find it rather funny that anyone is committing to going next year when we have no idea where it will be held.
...What if they choose Seattle for the Shootout next year?
...What about Anchorage?
Are you guys serious?!

10-04-2005, 04:56 PM
I think so far Sean they have tried to hold the event on east coast, and then the west coast, alternating years. So if that theory will hold up, next year it should be closer to us.
Andrew Wang
10-04-2005, 07:13 PM
No one can guarantee where the shootout is going to be OR what will happen a year from now. The best we can do is say if the shootout is within reasonable driving distance for us I will make the committment to go and plan the year to go. But unforseen things happen (driving distance one of them) and no one can blame you if you should need to back out. But it all starts with a committment and keeping that as the goal.
fast Ed
10-04-2005, 08:21 PM
I doubt that the event will go much farther west than it is now. They know that there would be no east coast, or likely even mid-west (St. Louis guys) participation if they go any further.
Here's hoping for something on our side of the continent next year. As Andrew said, it starts with a commitment to make the effort. Start putting a bit of money aside for it, make sure you will have some vacation time available to you from work, and most of all, make sure you're not fixing your car right before the event like I am!! Damn P/S hose. :p
I wasn't expecting many of you to make the trip to OKC this year, 20 hour drive that it is. Last year when it was only 5 hours away, it would have been nice to see more of us go. Part of the reason that location was selected, was it's close proximity to one of the most active chapters, the SCCoO!! So just keep the 2006 event in the back of your mind for now, and Andrew promises to bump this thread once a month to remind everyone. ;)

Ok, I've added you guys to the list. I didn't add "maybe" beside anyones names because that would be almost like conceding defeat. Make it happen in 2006 guys.
Anymore guys want to sign up, how about some XR7's, V8's? Northern NY State guys are also welcome to join in the group with us. Remember we can double or even triple up in rooms if need be and the shootout should be closer to us. After this trip to OKC, even a 600 mile, 10 hr trip seems like nothing.

10-13-2005, 03:17 PM
A reliable source told me that the event next year will definitely be "closer for the Ontario guys". So think about what we said here ... it's up to you to make the commitment to attend.
YOU WILL NOT REGRET GOING TO THIS EVENT. A common concern we hear is that people are afraid to break their car so far from home. But if you break 300 miles, or 1300 miles from home, it doesn't make much difference. Keep in mind that the Shootout is probably the best place to break an SC. You have a whole gang of knowledgeable SC guys to help fix the car, and a ton of spare parts around as well.

Funny...
I was thinking along the same lines as Ryan. If I'm going to make but one big SC event next year, I think I would prefer it was the Shootout rather than Carlisle.
And in regards to the spare parts issue...
At the All-Ford Nationals this past year I lost a front caliper bracket bolt, and couldn't even get a replacement for that easily. Thank goodness for Matt and Bev Leskiw getting out of the Olive Garden dinner early enough to hit the local hardware store, or I would have been SOL!
At the Shootout, it sounds like people were bustin' major components and still managed to drive their cars home. That's most impressive! It says a lot about the type of people we have in our community, and how much our common bond (of these damned decrepid cars ;) ) really brings the group together.
Kudos to the SCCoO guys who made the trip this year! Great job representin'!!! I hope I am counted among you next year.
Best regards,
Sean

If it's tough for whatever reasons, to attend both events, then passing on Carlisle to go to the Shootout instead, may be a good idea for some of you.
It depends on what you're looking to get out of an event. Carlisle is great for seeing all kinds of different Ford / Lincoln / Mercury vehicles, and hanging out with a bunch of fellow SCers.
The Shootout is all about SCs. Nowhere else will you get to see so many SC Birds competing, and the chance to meet and hang out with their owners. If you're not really interested in the other vehicles at Carlisle, then my suggestion is to go to the Shootout instead. You don't have to race or dyno your car if you don't want to, spectators are welcome. As Dave Dalke says: "More SC stuff, less puking." :D

Guys and Gals..............
I for one, will be making every effort to attend both of these events. This year was my first Carlisle Show and I had a great time. As Ed said, if your interest lies in all kinds of Fords, then this is the one to attend.
Bev and I will are going to try and attend as many events as we can. I dont think it has much to do with winning or losing, but more to do with participating, meeting new people and seeing whats new out there.
And you guys at the SCCoO have to have at least one V8 to poke fun at :D
As far as your car breaking down while your on this trip, I dont think there is any better place for it to happen. Seems every S/C I see anywhere has a trunk full of parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p
Andrew, put me down as a definite yes.

Ed, don't go thinking you can drum up enough support to have it North of the Border :p Most of us can convert to the Metric system :) Besides, starting next month, we will all need Passports to cross the border (a Birth Certificate won't be good enough). And I would guess most of the American SC'ers don't have Passports....I know I don't....Yet.
Edit: And yes, if I needed a passport to go to the shootout, I would have one.

Kurt, it would be nice to have it in our backyard, but we realize that's not doable for many U.S. residents, too far a drive. The SCCoO guys missed a good opportunity in 03 when it was at Norwalk, about 5 hours away. Realistically, it's not going to get any closer than that to us. Anything less than 20 hours away will seem close for me. ;) :p

Move the battery.Got to get myself a set of drag radials. I bet the new brakes will slow me down as well. Hell, I am going backwards. Maybe I can cut a better time backwards. Oh, well, at least you guys will have time during my runs for a beer break.

Sept. 30 / Oct. 1, 2006, at KilKare Raceway, which is near Dayton, Ohio. About 8 hours from Toronto. This is as close as the event is likely to be for a few years. ;)

Here is a link to the track. Kil-Kare Dragway is open after March 9, 2006 on every Thursday for Test and Tune at 5:00 PM. For those who might think to go up early, this might be an option as well. I, for one, am looking forward to this, bracket class or not. I want to see what the "real" S/C's can do. Everyone who can go, should be there. Would be nice to see a large SCCoO contingent.
September 30-October 1, in Dayton, Ohio!

Vytas, travelling as a group usually seems to lengthen the trip a bit. Unless we can do a really good job coordinating the fuel, food, and bathroom breaks with everyone. :)
8 hours should be the maximum it would take. I would really like to see a big Ontario group head to the event this year. It will be a lot of fun, regardless of whether you're participating, or just spectating.

I am in for anything you folks decide. The trip to Carlisle probably took longer because we went as a group, but was a lot of fun. I am trying to imagine 10-12 S/C's from this club arriving at the same time. Would be quite impressive. Even with the 4.6 tagging along behind(and before you say anything ED, I will add, wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy behind.)
I know this is quite a time away, but its never too late to think about accomadations.
Lets all step up to the plate for this. I have Carlisle, FFW in Norwalk, GTAMC meet, Dixie Ford, want to hit Lancaster, and since I will be in Gettysburg, I might hit the FFW in Virginia. Hopefully the SVTOA will hold its driving school at Shannonville, and I am trying to get hold of someone at Mosport so I can maybe make some laps there. Its gonna be a busy summer.

The drive to Carlisle last year was a blast, even with the periodic stops! I still have vivid memories of the last stretch of highway coming down into Carlisle!!! That was fun! ...And there were only a few times when Ed got on the radio to tell me about how I missed the apex. ;) I'm sure he wishes he was in front of me, instead of behind me.
I have family down in Cincinnati, and either Alecia and the kids will stay there, or we'll all stay there and I'll commute between there and Dayton each day of the event. I'll probably be skipping Carlisle in order to make this event.
...Plus, I've got a lot of work to get done to the car between now and then, and it will likely take me the majority of the season to get a fresh motor in the car, and the bugs worked out at the drag strip.
I missed the last Shootout that was even remotely close to us, and I don't want to miss this one! I hope we get a significant group from the SCCoO out to this great event.
Best regards,
Sean

You have a full day's drive down, Saturday is a social event mainly and Sunday is racing and then a day to drive back. If you are crazy you can probably work either Friday or Monday but that would mean blasting down at night. I think it's about an 8-10 hr drive for you guys in the TDOT. Racing should wind down about 5pm on Sunday but then there is the awards banquet after that which you won't want to miss.
Hope that helps you decide.

Jason,
I may be trailering my SC down using a borrowed car float and my brother's F-250. Of course, he and his wife and baby son may be joining us. If that's the case, then we'll bring the Odyssey down also so that the guys can have the truck at the track while the ladies shop using the minivan.
I'm really just doing this as a precaution, so that I don't get stuck potentially with an expensive repair bill or plain ol' hassle with being stranded down near Dayton. I might even load the minivan on the float and drive the SC home with the family onboard if I make it out of the dyno and racing events unscathed. ;)
We're planning to stay with family in Cincinnati, so we won't be joining you all at the hotel. We'll probably travel down on the Friday evening, and drive home on Monday morning.
...At least, that's the plan at this point.
Cheers,
