Hmmmm-owner states it started out as a LX 4.6L-VIN comes back as a 3.8L NA LX-what's up with that?

SVT2888
10-15-2005, 10:50 PM

Yeppers-so-

Was it a 4.6L car

or a NA 3.8L Car

Or a Supercharged 3.8L car???

What speedo-an SC speedo or a Ford Motorsport speedo??

he also added the 35th anniversary badges and an SVT badge on the back.

No wonder the eBay auction ended with no bids

and the fact that he was asking to much money.

I do alot of selling and buying on Ebay and have to remind people that:

An item is only worth as much as someone else is willing to pay for it, NOT what the owner "has in it" or what the owner thinks its should sell for.

Ok here is my rant-

The car is real. It started out as a 4.6lx. I converted it as stated in the ad and I would say it is more advanced than a normal SC, but I digress.

The motor was pro built by a NASCAR Spec Truck builder in Hemet, CA. All the parts are listed are real as in Cobra Trans, Cobra Brakes ect. MN12 copied and sells the trans shifter box that we designed. The super charger is an AED Kit. If you are a REAL gear head you know how much this stuff costs-do the math. Even a properly build SC hybrid motor would cost as much.
I suspect most of comments are from inexperienced wanna' be's who don't have the cash to do it right. Most of the cars I see are 2000.00 SCs with 1000 bucks worth of crap add ons and the owner thinks they have a CONTENDER. What a joke! Yes there are some nice SCs out there but they will never be worth any money in our life times. Yes, there were some mistakes in the begining part of the ad but the discription page is 100%. The world does not seem to value SCs, LXs TBirds too much and resale values prove it. My mistake was probably putting to much $$$ in this car but what the hell I make 6 figures. As I said, it is the way I though a SC should have been done.

Think of it like this, if I can't sell this car with this much stuff on it then you guys will get nothing for your cars.

I will probably have to strip the car and put the motor in a 2000 or better Mustang. Or just donate the thing and get a tax deduction. May this is why I want out of this community, you seem to like to eat your own.....

Sorry it's just that these days you have to be very warry. There are too many crooks out there nowadays. They ruin it for all the honest sellers out there. The mistakes just made it seem like you were lying.

BTW I would love to see that car in person before you sell it. You are only up the 710 for me :D

I wish I had the money for that car right now. My poor 96 Lx is wounded. The PI cams weren't timed right so cylinder #4 is misfiring probably due to a bent valve or something. :(

Your car is truely what a SC should have been.

BTW you can always donate the car to me :p :D

That way I can be faster than Leo's 06 Stang.

Although I think AED wnet on a bender here with his rant...You guys have to understand that the man can ask whatever he wants for his car..Its your option not to buy it.

The question was about what kind of car it was due to VIN discrepancies. I didn't see a problem at all. Aside from that I don't know why AED is slamming us

And while AED can ask what he wants, $15K is too much for a 94 T-Bird. Plain and simple. He can get mad at us, saying we eat our own and if he can't get $15K then we won't get what we want for our cars, etc... but in the end it's too much ...especially for Ebay where the cheapazzes are looking for "give away" prices. He'd be better just waiting it out on Autotrader.

And in case this is your first rodeo with a highly modified car AED, here's a few given's. 98% of the time you throw your money away buying and modifying vehicles. Most guys in your situation who "need" to get a certain dollar figure back out just end up parting the thing out. Even then you would be lucky to recover half of your money.

It's a nice car, but seems like your anger is a little mis-directed.

My friend has a car similar to your's (only it's a 97 and an auto still). It has been a long time assembling (still needs tranny put in, and a tune), but he's asking $10,000 and I don't think he'll get that.

I think that the seller did an excellent job of noting all of the details. Read his e-bay feedback @ 100% and that speaks for itself. I have had 3 SCs and would much rather have a supercharged 5.0 or 4.6 for that matter because the 3.8 is so prone to problems and is time consuming to make go fast and still maintain reliability.

If Ford could have built a V-8 supercharged bird cost effectively they should have done it!!! I put $10,000 into my 5.0 Mustangs engine alone and sold it for $7,000 to a friend because I had a hard time finding a worthy buyer. I'm not sure what the market will bear price-wise. If I was looking to build a bird I would have to take a serious look at that car!!! It looks to be well cared for.

Plain and simple, that is an awesome car that I would be happy to own and I think that the seller is a stand up guy.

At those speeds aerodynamics will hinder you more than anything else

I think if a vette can do 190 some in stock body form and we have a lower coefficiant of drag, then i dont think we'll have a problem, nor will our aerodynamics will "hinder" anything.

I'd just like to briefly interject about this man's car. It's an absolute beauty, and I think any of us insulting his sales tactics/ pricing are just plain foolish. His car is well worth his asking price, based alone on what it does and mileage. Screw Kelly Blue Book, and the "market" for our cars for that matter. Damon's right. If it's worth it to the buyer, then the car is worth it. Do you fine, objective men think a Honda lover would pay $2000 for a 93 Bird? NO! So do not hound a man for wanting to sell his car at HIS price. That's my 2 cents.

and encouragement. I went on that rant because of the price comments, the VIN comments etc. Ebay lists its description based on the VIN and ACCORDING to Ebay my car is a 6 cyl, hence the description and the discrepancy. It is the right VIN and on my registration it is listed as a 4.6 L car.

Regarding the comment about aerodynamics; if you have ever been in a street car going 150 to 170 MPH for a sustained period of time, you know what I am talking about about not being stable. Even though our cars are very aero, strange things happen at those speeds i.e. air flow under and to the side of the car, the windows reaction to air and things start to rattle. I have been in a Viper at 190 MPH. It was built for it and it was scary.

Who knows what I will get, its a fair deal for a special TBird person. I realize as most of all of do, that every MODIFIED dime you put into a car is for sport and you will be lucky to recoup any of it. I am just a gear head trying to recoup some cash to go on the next project. However, this does not seem to apply to vintage hot rods. Who knows, may be in time Tbirds will gain that status. They are great cars that had alot going for them. Good lines, performance that can be made great and comfortable. People forget the Bird was the first FoMo car with the 4.6 modular motor and the first car with IRS that counts for something in my book.

The SC was a great idea as we all know. I had fun buliding my version of it.

Thanks for looking. AEDv8sc
