This being my first SC Ihave a question concerning the steering rack. Is there supposed to be alot of play in the steering? I can grab the front and back of the wheel with it jacked up and the wheel and hub will move almost a half inch (turn in and turn out). When i'm driving i can turn the steering wheel back and forth about a quarter of an inch before i notice the car begin to turn. Also on abumpy road theres a chattering from the front end that i beleive may be the hub moving toe in and toe out because of the looseness.
Is this normal for our cars? if not. how to fix.

As with most high mileage cars, the ball joints, bushings and tie rods in the front suspension are probably worn out. That would cause the play you are describing.

Check tie rods first, then sway bar end links. If you can move the part with your bare hands, it's bad.
