I am helping a friend rebuild his new to him '89 SC. we have read alot about all the headgasket problems. and since his motor has a blown headgasket we are going to do a complete rebuild. decked block & heads as well as ARP studs from top to bottom.

so far I have found SCP who seems to be a great source for parts.

is there anyplace to but a properly preped 3.8 SC motor?

Who sells foraged pistons & rods for the 3.8?

Thanks,
Tom

PS what have you guys paid in the past for your block work?

Impatient aren't we?

Stock replacement pistons from Sealed Power are good for under 400 rwhp and non-nitros applications. They're available from anywhere.

Contact this guy via e-mail for info on a CAM or other engine parts:

Look HERE it is a Mustang V6 board. There are many other companys there that build HiPo 3.8s. Look into RPM i have bought all my parts for my SC rebuild threw Mic at RPM and cant say enough great things about him and his business.

When I rebuilt my SC motor, I went 20 thou over on the cylinders, used factory rods, put in a new crank, and new pistons from SEALED POWER. Also, the HGs I do believer were SEALED POWER but can't remember for sure. Give me a few days to get out to my dad's shop and I can tell you for sure. Apparently they were proven to be the best Head Gaskets available for these cars and are guaranteed for 200 000 kms or 10 years. The main problems arose from the aluminum heads and cast block expanding at two different rates causing the gasket to inflate unequally under pressure. The gaskets I got for my SC are rated for no more than about 350 hp applications, which in my case is plenty to come off a pushrod V6. Check into the Sealed Power, I believe most of the gaskets I used in my rebuild came from them. Good luck with your project. They are awesome cars when they are running good.
