brakes broke?

Had the bird in the snow for the first time, unfortunatly couldn't get the other car to start this morning. Had to make a quick stop and i noticed the ABS kicked in but the pedal got hard like manual brakes. All other braking was fine just this one stop. Brake light and ABS did not go on. Is my accumulator going bad? Glanced at the brakes and noticed what looked to be a brake proportioning valve with an electrical connection hang loose. Could this be the problem?
Thanks,
Phil

It sounds like your accumulator is weak. It lacks the fluid capacity to cycle the ABS. You can do a driveway test and count number of presses of the pedal with the key on and engine off to see how much capacity has been lost. I wouldn't be surprised if you heard the pump cycle with every pedal press.
You should definitely fix the loose connection. It could be a factor.
