Hello everyone!

I have my battery located in the trunk. I plan on going to a track that uses IHRA rules. Do I need a shut off? Also what are the specific rules regarding how it is mounted. Are there any other rules regarding a relocated battery? I'm looking to run it at the track again. I just want to be legal before I drive there and they tell me no. Thanks

I asked the same question a while back.

What I got out of the responses is that the battery needs to be solidly mounted in a sealed box with a shutoff that is accessable from outside the car.

This is for cars like ours without a firewall between the trunk and cabin.

Batteries: All wet cell batteries must be relocated into the driver/passenger compartments and must be securely mounted. A maximum of two automobile batteries is permitted of 150 pounds combined maximum weight. Plastic Battery hold-down straps are not permitted. Minimum bolt size of 3.8 inch steel. A master cutoff switch must be loctaedoutside the vehicle and disconect the battery instantly. Dragsters with battery mounted behind rearend must have a steel plate of 1/8 inch or aluminum of 1/4 inch between rearend and battery.

You'll need either a DPST switch or a relay method to interrupt the ignition wire. These cars (at least my '89) will continue running after the battery is disconnected.

Moroso makes a nice DPST switch with 2 sets of contacts (I don't have the model # here): heavy duty for starter, etc. and light duty for ignition.
