How do I get the A/C lines apart?

Those would be the spring lock connectors that are the source of most of our freon leaks! I used a $10 set of plastic tools from Autozone...they look like these:

You just put them over the line, slide it in to expand the spring, then pull out the tube. They seem to leak frequently and are sometimes very difficult to separate, but apparently are extremely easy (ie. cheap!) to install at the factory.

Good luck!

I did the same thing when I pulled my engine: went to Murray's and bought the plastic spring lock tool. It works well, though I agree that some of the refrigerant lines are a bit difficult to pull apart. They do come apart though, so pfersistence is the only thing I can suggest. Good luck! :)
