If a Moderator can chance the subject for me to "Super Coupe Meet - June 23-25 @ Kansas City" that would be great. I thought I had it changed, but it hasn't worked. Thanks

Chris-checked the new schedule yet? KCIR is off the schedule, as is Cordova-May's race is at No Problem raceway, and being listed as the Cajun FFW-would think that it's being held in Loosiana.

The new schedule absolutely sucks-guess they don't want my money anymore.

So did this idea flop? For a few people, the interest seemed pretty good when the idea was brought up in OKC....

If I can get off work (that is, if I have a job by then  ) I'd try to make it out to KC. Especially if there would be some racing involved. :D

My #1 priority is to make it to WFC this year.

I've been looking at the calander a bit lately and have it down to 3 different weekends in June. The All Ford Nationals in Carlisle is on June 2-5, so that weekend is out, but the next three are fair game, the 10-11, 17-18, and 24-25. My personal vote is for the 17-18 or 24-25 so that we give those who plan on attending Carlisle a chance to recover before making another trip (catering to the St. Louis crowd here). We would like to make a decision by the end of the month so we can let every one know when it is, so the out of towners can start making travel plans.

Those of you who are interested in attending, post your weekend preference here so we can get a consensus as to which weekend will work best. If the NE crowd is attending the upcoming mini-meet, we'll get your vote then.

Hehe...the calendar I was using doesn't have Father's day on it...hehe...

Looking more like 24-25 then...

And yes, we are planning on the KC area since it is pretty centrally located for our "target" participation. (around 3-hours for us NE guys, 3-hours for the south central KS guys, 3-hours for the St Louis guys, etc)

Sam its more like 4-hours. Its 3-hours from St. Joseph with is 1-hour north of Kansas city. Thats at 75 mph on interstate and 65 mph on the famous 2 hwy.

I can always make it to Indepenance in 3.5 hours if I drive straight through. Either way, it is a nice Central location from Lincoln, Omaha, Wichita, Topeka, St. Louis, Columbia, etc.

Should be a good time!! Are we planning on going to KCIR? I see that they have an open grudge night on Friday night that I will most likely try and make, esp. since Scribner is closed.

I usually make it down there in just about 3 hours, maybe 3:15. But when I go down, we're either on the NW side or NE side of KC. And figuring the location where I actually live, that takes off a lot of time.

That's one of the things that we are going to try to get set-up. We are not going to try to rent the track or anything, but Marc is going to look into when it's available for some "open" racing. He just needs dates from us, which is looking more and more like 24-25. I plan to have some information put out soon. I'd also like to get a group rate at a hotel for the meet as well. There's one that I stay at a lot when I'm down in the KC area that's pretty nice. I'm going to check and see how the location is in comparison to KCIR. I know the hotel is on the north east side of KC...I just don't know where KCIR is...But that's easily fixed with a small effort...hehe

KCIR is approximately 6-10 miles south of I-70 on Noland Rd which is approximatley 3-5 miles east of 435 and 2-3 miles west of 291 Hwy. There are a few Hotels there at the intersection of Noland and I-70 BUT HEAD MY WARNINGS ABOUT STAYING THERE...Noland Rd is a teen cruise parkway. It is known in more states then just MO. With those little darlings comes @$$loads of crime. I STRONGLY SUGGEST NOT STAYING THERE.

Where I'm thinking of is further north. I just want to make sure that it's not a 1-hour commute to get to any of the places we may go, like KCIR. I'll do some digging and get post back here.

The last two events we had in Kansas City (April and September 2002) We stayed at the Comfort Inn on Noland Road and I-70. I don't believe we had any problems.. atleast with anyone not stayed or in charge of the hotel :D I'd like to stay somewhere remotely close to the interstate and the track.

And I wouldn't mind the opportunity to take a pass or two down the track - even though I'm planning to head to the Fall Club Clash in Iowa. I'd only want to make a few passes to see what my car is capable of :D That, and I'd like to see if I can get a 13 second time slip before Sam does :D haha

I did some digging and found that the hotel I usually stay at (I have to confirm this with the rest of my family...because I generally don't pay attention to it) is further east on 70, not further north on 435 like I thought. It's roughly 15 miles from KCIR which, according to mapquest, says 20 minutes to get there. It's the Courtyard by Marriott in Blue Springs, MO. It's a nice place. I'm up for paying the little extra to get a nice place to sleep. I'm not sure what the group rate is, but all it takes is a phone call to find out. If I remember (we had a family reunion there) it was around $70 a night or so...but I'll have to 2x check it. I've got the information and can make the calls.

Melon,
You'd better go to the track before KC if you want to get into the 13s before me.

The hotel does not have a bar/lounge area, but it does have a small restraunt. Is the bar/lounge a deal breaker?

They told me that there's plenty of room for vehicles with trailers. I've been there, but I honestly don't remember much about the parking lot...

I'll have to call back on Monday to find out what a group rate would be. The only catch about the group rate is that we'd have to have at least 10 rooms, which is probably pretty standard across the board.

the hotel we stayed at before had bar lounge area (was a coverted holidome)
so has the whole indoor theme tropical plants pool hottub
and game room for the kids
plus bar ect...
It has gone somewhat downhill but is still nicer than any hotel at any meet yet

noland road is not bad as far as the SC's go (crime wise)someone is usually up late anyway

007_SuperCoupe
02-11-2006, 04:51 PM
All I'd like is something that doesn't have the 1970's theme still going strong in it. Something better than where we stayed at for the shootout this last fall and that doesn't cost a fortune to stay at. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I'm not made of money...(or my SC would be finished :) ), so I was looking at places that are under $100/night. If we can get a nice place (group rate) for that, them I'm cool with anywhere. I just don't want to spend all my money on a hotel, or stay in a dump. I was looking at business class type hotels. But if you (Marc) know of some nice family oriented hotels, then I'm all for that. I was just making a suggestion since it's a place that I've stayed at before and it's nice. (That and someone needed to take the lead in it if we wanted to get a group rate)

So, Marc, if you want to do some more looking around since you live 3 hours closer than I do, that would be a help to us all. :)

Okay, just got off the horn with the hotel I was looking at. They are 100% sold out that weekend, not one room available.

I've stayed there, so that's why I figured it'd be a decent place to stay.

Do any of you local guys want to take the lead in setting up a group rate at someplace down there?

The other option is that we stay on the Kansas side of KC, but that puts us further from KCIR.

Any and all input is welcome. We do need to get a place setup so we are co-located. Otherwise it's not much of a meet...hehe...

Let's get some local guys to find a place for us to park our cars, set up lawn chairs in the parking lot, and sleep in a bed, (only if there's time for sleep).

There's a few hotels on Noland Road that's not too far from KCIR. That's the place that Marc is talking about. We had a meet there before with David N., Chris W., Melon, Thomas A, Todd J..and so on.

I can also check in Blue Springs which is east of Noland Road with good access to I-70.

Give me a few days and I'll report back with a list of hotels and prices.

We looked at a number of dates when we did this. We want to get as much participation as possible. Between a dyno tune here in Lincoln, Carlisle, WFC, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day etc, the date we felt we could get the most participation was the weekend of the 23-25 of June. I know that it's not the "coolest" time of the year, but for the most participation, it was the best time we could do it.

this sucks...
I just realised this is the same weekend as All Ford Day(June 25) at Bandamere in Denver,
We wanted to get Dave D. out here for a tuning session, and our regular dyno day the day before. June 24
Some of the western state guys have shown some interest.
Now I'm trying to figure out if I should throe in the towel on any Colorado event ever coming together. The weather should be nice (no humidity, temps from 70-80*) its really a nice time of year out here.
You NE guys keep saying you'll make a trip out here but like everything else it never happens. I like going east, but it would be nice to have something here for a change.
I've said it before, who cares if your car is slower..you'll see if your here...everyone elses cars are slower too! The N/A cars are really slow.
The comparison is still for real, & Ford Day out here is really sweet!
The only problem is theres always 1-2 fast SCs running, & maybe 2-4 stock SCs, among a sea of mustangs. I guess its too late to gripe.
I was planning the KC thing until I realised the conflict.
I'm still willing to put something together, if there is any interest...but I doubt I'll be going 700 miles east now.
You guys have a good time!
Dave D if your reading this, & aren't attending the KC event... pack your bags & plan on tuning a few cars out here. I beleive, myself, Chris from Utah, Tony , Harry & one other need a tune. J Schall said he was considering ditching the tuner for a chip too. Maybe by then Dave R will need a tune too!
Sorry guys I had to vent here, It's just frustrating to always be the one putting down the miles. We have quite a few enthusiests out here now & still nobody wants to come play, or theres always something conflicting.

Todd,
Too bad there's a conflict. Give us a good date for next year and I'm sure we'll have a few that will make the trip. I'm all for heading to CO for a meet. I give a rats @$$ how fast my SC is there...or anywhere for that matter. I just like to hang out with everyone...

Victor,
The details are on the first post, but here's the gist:

We're planning on an imprompto race at KCIR Friday night. It's the grudge night, so it's just run what you brung...nothing organized really at this point (nor do I see it being).

Saturday is pretty open right now. We haven't talked about a dyno session or dyno tune yet. Initially, the plan was to just hang out and get to know everyone better.

If you still want more information, feel free to email me: smalone@neb.rr.com and I'll answer any other questions that you have. Hope you can make it.

I have a suggestion for sat. in the intrest of hanging out & meeting everyone,
in addition to that is, a simple repair or mod party. IE: radio install, window tint, wind noise, fill in the blank. anyone that has talent in maintenance & wants to help or trade with others. I will bring A/C repair supplies & Freon. I can also polish plastics like instrument cluster cover, head light lens, tail lights. I will bring lots of little things that the SC will need. when you leave the meet you car will be better for it:) I enjoy fixing these cars & helping others in a spot. I am a bit needy in the electrical mod or sterio install so I will be calling out to the lighting & audio people :o so any one think this is an option out there just a short reply
will do
thanks!

Victor, where have you been??
As long as I've been around and going to meets( over 5 years) everyone chiping in & working on other cars has been the thing thats made me fearless about making another long trip with my SC.
Even if your not involved with repairs, just watching a bunch of nuts so determined to get everyone home safe is admireable, inspiring, etc...
must be why I've hung around so long, Its sure not the reliability and greatness of the car. (its the people who love them!!)

victor malvar
03-25-2006, 06:54 PM
Hi! yes that is admirable! I still need some stickers by the way...

I would answer this way...We've been pretty busy getting parts out to people who need them to have people helping people fix their cars non stop for 4 or more years without a vacation.

I just thought it was a real good thing to have get togethers and all bring your specialty and help a lot of guys that may not be as efficient in some areas as much as others.I know many people that do not have these get togethers. I listen to their emails and try to get them going the best we can by email or phone. Whatever it takes. Sometimes It's running to Fed Ex to get a part to some member overnight for a tuning or because it's their daily driver...

I suppose that finding the parts and the time to work on these challenging cars someone has to find them! Sometimes it's not too easy. You have to love the people you're working with and also love cars and we love both. I suppose we're always busy trying to do our part in our own way! Keeping them running well and providing the tech support, shipping the parts as fast as possible keeps us pretty busy connected to the computer all day and the phone. Helping members and non members with the help they need is rewarding. It can be exhausting 16 hrs a day you got to love doing it. We need a vacation just like anyone else but sometimes there is too much going on to break away! As I said...What better than to go somewhere were you can meet good people and have fun doing make friends! We hardly ever have the time to do things together. I see these get togethers as a real good idea where we all get to meet and get to know each other on a more personal basis which is a good thing. I could not make the last two shootouts due to some health issues which are finally getting a little better. I look forward to meeting you also.
Take care!
Victor and Diane

The other part which is nice is putting a face on people you speak to all the time but have never met. I understood your point clearly Hope you understand ours. A good Vacation and good friends helping friends that's what we do and enjoy most.:) :)

Not really...I suppose that we could. Friday night was the "open" racing. I could contact KCIR and see if we would be welcome on Saturday.

So Friday night might just turn into a meet for dinner then Saturday we go to the track. I'll do some digging on this today. I'll get back and let you know.

Got the info from the track today. Here's what they had to say:

Sam
The track is open to the public at the Soul Brothers event and they are letting people run that day plus there is money up for graps also.
If you have any questions please call 816-358-6701 or e-mail me at carolschreier@kcir.net Thanks KCIR Carol

So it appears that we can run on Saturday. Although I'm not sure that it'll be complete test and tune type racing, but more competitive racing. So some of us *me* may not be racing all that long...hehe

Regardless as to weather conditions (as long as it's not raining like KC Meet Sept 02) I'll make a few passes, mostly to see what my car will be capable of with the new setup. But it would be nice to have the opportunity to go race for most of the day.

And this will probably sound ignorant of myself - but who are the Soul Brothers?

This is sounding better all the time. Sam, I will talk with you later today.

We have our room but we may need another one for a friend. My son may come with me so we can room together.

I think he will be flying us there. I would like to drive but it's a lot of miles round trip. There is going to be racing. I would not mind bringing the SC and having some fun racing for a change. If any one needs any thing small. We can bring it in case anyone breaks down .

Maybe make a small list of what would be the most common things that might
be of use to keep everyone SC's running etc. Or just bring beer........!

We could put a SC-XR7 first aid kit together for whom ever may need a minor repair.Belts maybe? plugs? etc. Hopefully no one will need anything.Think about what might be needed the most. We can bring a few things just in case. Maybe someone could make a list and we will bring what we can. Let us know if we can help out with anything....

Looking forward to this meet !!!

I do know who's tub will be full of ICE & BEER 2

Whether he wants it to be or not...hehe!

Victor, the first aid kits that were brought to the shootout were as follows:

Plugs
Wires
Belts
Coolant
All engine electrical sensors/parts (cam, crank, DIS, etc)
1/2 shafts
upper engine gasket sets (particularly the manifold and head gaskets)
(Of course all the tools to get it all done)

I think that pretty much sums it up. There could be a little more, but that stuff was the most common. I'm just going off the top of my head too, so there's probably a couple things I'm forgetting...

If any one needs any thing small. We can bring it in case anyone breaks down .

Let's see, how about a new 3.8SC long block, 3.8SC short block, block, crank, heads, blowers (late model..MAG III, etc), cold air kits, driveshafts, MP front mount intercooler, radiator. That will probably work for now.

Ok, ok, if you can't carry that stuff with you, how about some of the cool aluminum stuff I've heard that you've been working on. Rumors of tensioner pulleys and other small items in the works. Oh, oh, seeing the new shorter condenser would be nice.

We also need shot-peen media, sand and dishwashing soap. For those of us who want to strengthen the motor internals, port and polish the heads and clean the motor while racing.

At this point, the hotel will be the best place to meet up. We don't know when people are going to be arriving for sure, so for now we will meet up there. I plan on being there around check-in time or a little later (3:00 pm) but I don't anticipate going to the track before 6:00. I'm not going to be running mine now. I'm not going to have the valve body here in time...and I'm not going to run it any more without the valve body. I really don't want to push my luck with the OD band...I'm really not sure how many more WOT shifts to OD it'll take.

In fact, I'm not going to be home again until the 23rd when I pack up to leave for KC. I'm just hoping that my bumper is done by then so I can have it on for the meet instead of the old banged up one that I have now.

There was a car wash down the road from the hotel but I think it got torn down to build a new CVS Pharmacy. I'll drive down Noland road, oh wait, they have a new car wash the other way but I'm not sure if it's open yet. I just remembered that down the road from the new car wash is a very nice one, so, I think that should suffice.

Oh heck, Thomas, you might as well just bring all your parts and parts cars with you. So, you should be bringing at least 5 Mark VIII's to part out, 2 or more SC's to part out and enough misc parts for us to just go through and take for the taking.

I'll be at the hotel. Since I won't be getting there til late, I'm not planning to hit up the track. I'll just hang out in the parking lot and BS with whoever happens to be there. I should be somewhat easy to spot - 05 F150 as the tow vehicle, and red 91 LX with Cobra R's is my 'Bird - both with Nebraska plates.

Todd - I'm up for an idea like that. It's a good idea for next year and since it's early enough - there's no reason why everyone interested can't make it :D By the way, I see you didn't get blown away the other night - Heard there was a tornado warning for your area.

I'm planning on it Todd...if we had a bit more coordination this year it would have happened that way. And from the sound of it, we're going to have 10+ cars there in KC. I'm hoping for a few more to show up unannounced. Either way, it sounds like we're going to have very good turn out at both locations. Where was everyone at tonight? Is anything going on tommorrow? I had some serious traction issues and could only muster a few 15.3's. However, The GTP netted it's best time to date 14.712 at 94.71 with a 2.118 60' time.

The bird was trapping at 91-92. Even at a 2400rpm launch, I was getting excessive wheelhop and tire spin. I think the 2.369 60' times tells the tale.

There's no rain over here at the hotel now. You need to come by here so you can see the heads I brought with me...since you had some questions about them...

I didn't get here until late last night since I had to put my bumper together then on my car yesterday, it delayed my start time significantly. Then I had to take a nearly 2-hour detour to pick up my oldest son from Boy Scout camp.

You guys that didnt show up to this meet, really missed out on a good time. Aparently it was my birthday too...I got free cake. Figured out the Aden boys are more like the Younger gang (outlaws) and Nettles is going to need a new engine from shooting a hole in the oil pan with his .357.

For those of you who say the numbers on the heads that Sam had were junk should really consider taking a look at what he is trying to do. With the larger valves in the head, I did some eyeballing and they looked really good. From the increase of exhaust valve size, it increased the short turn radius to something that I think is a TON more managable for our cars. The heads were in good shape and appeared to be really well done. Small things like unshrouding the valve and making it look like a stock head were done. I know some of you are going to say something about a frined who could do that for $20.00 but I mean it really does look professional like Sam said it did. Tomorrow (they hope), they are going to go to the track. I wont be able to make that trip because of my other projects.

Good luck guys and I hope you have a good safe trip back.

Sam, be carefull on your way to and from TX.

We made it a family affair with all 4 kids...and it worked out for the most part...hehe

Chris,
Thanks for the words about the heads...I'm a proponent of allowing the parts to speak for themselves...which they will, I have no doubt. I just want to bring something to the community that will be something worth the money spent.

We will be careful on our trip. It'll be a drive tomorrow, (today) but it shouldn't be an overly tough drive.

Yes, it was Chris's birthday. It's an old trick from the old timers of this club. Yea, you know what I'm talking about. :D

Concerning the heads, I think I heard the ported one say to me "I've been reamed".

The Aden boys and I were kicking around the idea of renting the track for our next meeting. I think if we rented the track, I could convince the St. Louis and IL crew to attend. My prediction would be $100 a person to run as many times as you want. I'm going to look into it and find out how much it will cost and how many cars it would take to pull it off.

Ken needs to bring an extra set of keys next time
Aden brothers got lost.. in a cornfield :D j/k
Some of us have fast cars, but can't count (Smokehouse BBQ reference)
Jason's car (yes the yellow one) runs on a switch.. it's either ON or OFF :D

Click here (http://www.midwestthundercats.com/forums/myspace/members/Melon/KC/) for the rest of the pictures I took. They are from the hotel on Saturday.

Here's a rough summary - atleast from my point of view:
Friday: I got there about 730pm to find a row of T-Bird's in front of the custard place. I checked in, unloaded, and headed over to hang out with them. Didn't really do anything else that night.

Got up Saturday and we all set out for breakfast - There wasn't a Perkins where they thought one was, so we ended up at Denny's. After that, those that wanted to go to the car show did that - a few, including myself, stayed at the hotel. It started to rain around 3 I think and it hung around for a while which cut out the idea of racing at KCIR. Had a late dinner at Smokehouse BBQ (good place to eat by the way.. atleast IMO) Good stories were told and the waitress was very cool - she took alot of crap from us, but she was able to dish it back.

Got up Sunday morning to hear about a lost set of keys. So waited around for a locksmith to come get things taken care of and then hit the road about 11 to get home around 230ish. No, the lost keys didn't belong to me :D

Overall - Had a great time seeing old friends, making new ones - and can't wait to do this again. Same time, next year? :D

So...as I sat there and heard all of the clapping and thought.."Oh...some poor schmuck is having a birthday...Why is Duane running back to his seat? Why is everyone at the table except for me clapping?....Man...they got me..."

Mongo like chocolate.

I was going to erase this last pic, but the look on Matts face is PRICLESS...

I second the thanks to Mike. My air was so cold going home...it actually froze up inside some...which he also explained how to fix to me over the phone....So...even more thanks.
I really enjoyed meeting everyone....very cool crowd. I look forward to doing it again soon.

Yeah, I'll have to get that A/C thing worked out in the future...I was too busy doing other stuff to get it done. No big deal...I've been without for a couple years now, so it's not like I'm not used to it! Hehehe...

Maybe I'll have to plan a trip down to Wichita in the future...

Sam, do you mean these pics!
Yup, those are the pics...hehe...

if you look REALLY close, you can see Sam and his ENTIRE family at the booth at the back of the table.
Yup, we're back there...all six of us. Marcia and I have decided (repeatedly) that we are going to start leaving the kids at home...it just hasn't happened yet...hehe...

This thread is worthless without pics!
Yes, Kurt, pictures would be better...although we all didn't find out about the skinny dipping until after the fact...the next evening when they were completely trashed again. Funny thing is that some of us didn't go to bed until about that time...how we missed it, I'm not sure...

Here are a few pictures I took. The first one is me with my favorite TBU shirt on;) A couple of the parking lot where we gathered. Most of what I took are repeative of other pictures already posted. Great time and gather a lot of ideas to improve my SC. Thanks Duane for the ideas. Never found my keys, maybe one of the hot chicks ended up with them and didnt know what to do with them. I be back to KC for the next meet when ever that will be

As promised on my trip to TX, (actually on the way home...) I stopped by the hotel we stayed at last summer for the shootout...

No, the tire part is actually gone. I suspect that it was not removed, but rather blew off in a thunderstorm. That's my theory at any rate. Especially since nothing else has changed about the hotel.

The parking lot burnout evidence is still there...Chris, sorry I didn't see where your shoes left any marks from when I did my burnout...although you did "hook up better" than I did...hehe

It does appear that they resurfaced the access road to Walmart...there were no black marks present at all.

Hey Ken, where's that "other" picture of you in the TBU shirt...that's the one I want to see... ;)

Oh...and dont forget that Mike likes younger girls...ones who have to have their boyfriends register with the state...

Chris

I'm reminded of the Great George Burns who said "People ask me why I don't date women my own age. I'd love to date women my age, but at my age there are no women my age!" :D:D

And the waitress was of age for consent (I.E. over 18) she just seemed to like older men! :D

The blonde was cute. She was trashed and then some, and yes she was DUMB! But she knew cars. For example she knew there was NO WAY a rear drive car could make 600 HP because the chassis would flex! But a front drive could it no problem:D:D LOL

Its probably best that I was not there to feild that answer...She would have been a tad on the angry side when I called her a stupid so and so....

Which pic of Ken are you talking about Sam? The one where he has the bright RED sleeves?

She was too trashed to have probably noticed. But she would have been argumentative just for the sake of arguing. She couldn't understand that a car can be made to have well over 600 whp without flexing too much... It went on and on...

As for the picture...I took 2 of them for Ken...one is the one he posted...the other isn't posted...it's the one that I like better. It really shows Ken's...better side...hehehe

Couple of guys around KC are going to KCIR either this weekend (18th) or next weekend (25th). Anyone interested? Right now we have 3 people going for sure. Lets have a showing!

I'd like to go, I haven't been to KCIR before. I went to MoKan last night and got runner up in the Slow Bracket class (I hate that name). Anyway, finalize a date and we'll see what happens.

The date is flexible, I'm just trying to feel out what is best for everyone else. Whatever works for the majority, so we can have a good showing.

Most of us will be in Ohio for this year's Shootout on Oct 1st.

edit: sorry, the first time I read your post, I thought it read october 1, not october I

It's always a possibility, but there aren't too many open weekends left this year. We just had a meet here this weekend, plus the Hot Rod Supernats in two weeks, the SC shootout at the end of September, and our monthly dinner meets, some of us start to get worn out after a while.
