I cleaned the batery terminals and replaced the alternator AGAIN on the car. The car is fine. Lesson learned: Don't assume that just because you are buying a new part it is in working order!. THANKS a LOT!

OPPS! This was supposed to be part of another thread. Anywho, thats for the help guys. My car is idling fine...

Good thing the high voltage didn't kill any electronics - you must have had some nice bright head lights at > 17 volts

Did you buy a new alternator or a "rebuilt" one?
Never rely on a "rebuilt" part to work corectly, always test it

I'm the one who said alternator, but did not tell you to test the system with a voltmeter. Should have had you do that first.
