Im impressed as to how he made the lines just flow...i mean, to me it looks like a NATURAL convertible shape and lines. Too bad its just a model...i saw it on tccoa, click the link for more pix..

There was a real convertible SC a few years ago that I saw over at TCCoA. It was gawdy orange, and I dont think it had a top built for it, but it was well done.

You mean JJ's ?? It used to be a metallic blue, and then it went all crazy ?
That car was never finished. He ended up trading it for a truck, and then some of the pieces found their way onto other peoples Tbirds. Havent seen or heard about it since. I dont think the convertible top worked out very well for that Tbird.

I dont remember who owned it, just that it was wild. I think it had a large system in it and was lowered with big rims too. Lots of bracing required to do it to our cars since they are flimsy to begin with. I cant find any pics of it...

I think this is the car, before the roof was cut off.

And a couple, after the operation.

yeah i was going to post pix of that orange car yesterday with the original post but i got lazy:p . I remember reading a long time ago when this guy did his. I like the way the model car rounds the back better...to where it flows, it doesnt look chopped up, and the full size windshield. Is the model originally convertible? I was assuming that the model was also custom cut.

Still lovz it!

Didn't that car get parted out? I seem to remember that it did. They found out that the MN12 chassis is unstable or something like that without the roof for support.

i think in order for u to have a convertible SC u have to add that support bar across the top. That arch! like the cobra convertibles have. and put a nice thick sway bar in the rear from one shock to the other in the trunk.

if the car pictured in the post is the car, thats actually PPG Candy Tangerine. in the sunlight with a good paint job, that color is crazy. There will be an 03 Cobra racecar with that for the base color out soon  ;)

I thought those light bars were just for looks. I love how they look...but didnt know they actually serve a strength purpose.

the "styling bar" does not add any structual strength.

That ASC car looked real nice!

My former neigbor still as an 89 ASC-Mclaren Mustang stashed away in his garage. They did a hell of a job on it.

I don't know if this blue SC is the same car or not but....

Forget a side to side bar, I think you would need to connect the subframes in a serious way for this to ever work. If you could modify some frame rails to connect the front to the back and have them be stiff enough it might work.
I know on my SC, if I jack up just one side in the front, the doors dont open and shut the same. I can only imagine the flex with no roof

That blue Tbird is not the same one. It was a metallic blue with wire wheels before the orange paintjob.
To add strength to the body of the TBird, it would need some serious reinforcement .. more than just subframe connectors. I would run some boxed or tube steel and tie into the "frame" alongside the transmission tunnel, and some more reinforcement along the rockers.
Might lose some leg room or foot space, but you would gain it all up top with no roof.

That model in the first post looks awesome, I'd drive it til the cows come home! As far as other 1:1 cars, there was a super-custom lowrider that was blue metalflake with tons of interior mods that made the magazines way back when. It was pretty sweet too! Anybody got a pic of it?

Here's the Cougar convertable concept, I personally think it resembles a Le Baron too much. Not really my liking but definately neat to see what it would have looked like.

Yeah, that's it. I sure do like the suicide doors.

Too bad Rawchicken didn't finish his, that car was definitely goin' in the right direction. Mate a Cougar decklid to the Thunderbird transom and it woulda been sweet!

Hey guys.

I am the builder of the convertable SC model in the first post of this thread. Thanks for the comments, it wasn't that difficult of a task. Whoever asked if the kit came that way, no it did not. I went ahead and chopped the top myself.

Here are some new pictures with new rims.

Is this model available to purchase somewhere? I saw in a previous post a mention of Walmart, but that is a store I never frequent!
Is it available anywhere up here in the great white north?
