Dead fuel gauge

ok I was short on cash for a new fuel pump.so i took the tank from my 89 that i'm parting out to put in my 90,well the tanks in and the car is running but now my fuel gauge is dead.the 89's gauge worked perfectly and the 90's gauge worked before the tank swap.evrytime i fix something on my car something else breaks,i think it likes the attention.any ideas on how to fix the dead gauge?

i would pull the tank back down and see if the float is stuck and check the plug on top of the sending unit
 
When you lowered it the first time did it put any tension on the wires/connector? While it is down and out(so to speak) Check the connector for terminals that may have been pulled back or wire breaks between there and the first support point for that loom.
 
I guess i'm pulling it down to check the connector and float 2morrow.thanx i'll let you know if i fix it or not.
