I was tinkerin' around with cuttin' in some cats on a set of dragpipes and the clearance isn't that bad but was wonderin' about locating them further downstream. The ones I mounted, as the pic shows, are close to stock location. Would it hurt to move them about a foot to the horizontal run? Would they still be effective that far downstream?

here's a pic.

Wynn,

I saw a post somewhere where XR7 Dave did just that. But I can't find it.

you can move them too far to were they do not get hot enough to operate. 12" probably isn't enough to hurt that considering the nature and drivability of these engines.

Wynn, Let me know if you get it to work. I have a set of your dragpipes with no cats and that pass.side pipe is already close to the frame. If I put cats there they would be too close for comfort.

mine are mounted about three inches farther back than yours in picture and it works great passed so calif smog with flying colors how far back did you want to put them cause you have to warm engine longer to pass smog I had to race my sc around the block to get cats hot enough to work right .

Mine are mounted flat on each side of tranny and it still passes state dyno emmisions.

I;d say go for it

The straight run right before the crossmember is where I'm thinkin'. I have both the flat & bullet style, probably use the flat.
