Just for gits and shiggles, let's see what tools or extra car parts you bring just in case something goes wrong (even if not) with your SC.:)

Well.....when I was only pushing 300whp I didn't bring anything. I think this year I'm pretty much just going to bring them all....but in my truck, because I plan on getting a trailer....oh and a jack.

Basically a full screwdriver and ratchet set, torque wrench, laptop, palm pilot....um....oh yeah and a jack.

I might fly into Memphis just to get my tool box full of goodies. Everything you need to work on an SC, minus the TQ wrench and air tools.

The one thing I didn't bring last year that I needed was an axle nut socket (36mm, I think). I will be bringing at least 2 spare axles this year and several new axle nuts (I still owe Tony one from last year).

Floor jack, jack stands, lots of tools, spare plugs, coolant, motor oil, trans fluid, SC oil, gas can, mini air compressor, copper RTV, zip ties, spare belts, lights, DIS module, cam sensor, crank sensor, tensioner pulleys, flashlights, spare bottle of nitrous, batterys for camera and radio, cigs, cooler, case or two of Bud Light and this year some spare tie down straps.

Bring maps...lots of maps, so you don't have to reley on a drunk guy to lead the convoy around in the dark.

Jeeeeez David! I wouldn't think you would even have any time to drink two cases or even one with all of that potential work. I guess I know where to go if i need to borrow something.:D

I'm just going to drive my car to the shootout since it is only 150 miles from my house. I'm gonna just leave my tools, my spare parts, and extra wheels on the ground in the pit area.

Dave's got a pretty good list there. I didn't need the nitrous though and had to go out and buy the spare belts and antifreeze. Other than that I had a trunk full of Trails End popcorn for my oldest son to sell! (and a bunch of diapers for my 2 month old at the time :) )

KenActually, if you remember (which is unlikely considering "your condition"), I didn't actually try to follow you down the dead end gravel road and lead David to the correct road. I realized the error of my ways (allowing you to navigate) when we met at the parking lot after your detour, and you started looking at the map upside-down!

And although my navigation skills did require 4x4 SC's on the way to Carlisle last year, it was because of road construction on the "short cut" I chose to avoid major construction on the Interstate.

If I remember hearing correctly it seems as if an extra harmonic balancer needs to be brought for somebody. And I don't mean for the SC either.:)

Im considering gobbling up a big supply of axles, half shafts, and balancers and bringing them to the shootout and opening a stand.

Then i can sell them at premium prices and make a hefty profit! :D :p

You wouldn't make much. There's too much free parts swapping, labor, etc that goes on at the shootout. Especially this last one with all the carnage... Everyone helps everyone out and there's very little $$ exchanging hands...

05 will be a year my SC's undercarriage will never forget. Carlisle "shortcuts" and following Ken down rutted roads while him and Ward read the map UPSIDE DOWN:eek:

Back to the topic at hand....I usually just stuff whatever tools fit around 2-3 cases of beer in the trunk.

Jack, torque wrench, socket set, spanner nut wrench for Kurt, hub nut for Kurt......Oh and I gots to leave room for my trophies too;)

Definately an extra axel and the wrenches to change it, tools to swap blower pulleys and blowers, an extra windshield would come in handy, blower oil is good, a blower belt or two in various sizes and an extra shifter.

I think that's all the things I've had to buy or borrow while at previous shootouts.

well i will try to bring a 5 spd trany next time but the most handy thing i took was the air comprsor and a big box of tools and some tools i havent even use yet, and axles, i have even had some one borowing plug wires, and at this rate might as well bring a spar motor ha ha

I fill the box trailer up with more tools than you need to rebuild one of these cars. I also bring a gen set and a air compresser with some more tools. You just never know when you need to give it some heck in the back parking lot of the hotel....I remember replacing a water pump one night in the back of some hotel lot....:p ......
Spair parts, well that is just about everything in the drive train for two cars and maybe a few doubles of some other parts.. .
Now as for the most important tools, well that would be the refig. in the trailer that is full of some of that stuff that made Milwaukee a spot on the map...:D ...COLD ONES...:D ...........Rich

Anybody have anything else to add this close to the shootout?

I'm going to drive the SC there and debating whether or not I should risk running slicks and breaking 2hrs.30min. away from home or not.

I'll just bring some wrenches, sockets, a couple of ratchets, some screwdrivers, etc....

Which direction are you . . . I am sure there will be a way to get you home.

I will be bringing Spindle and axel assemblies, as in my experience the wheel bearing always goes with the axel. A spare center section, maybe a drive shaft or two . . . and socket set, Axel nut socket (Kurt I had one, I beleive you used mine least year), Impact wrench, hand tools, jack . . . should get er done.

Axel nut socket (Kurt I had one, I beleive you used mine least year).

Dave

Dave, if I did borrow your socket (and I probably did), I either loaned it to another broken car or lost it. Either way, I will try to remember to bring you a new socket this year....I will at least try to bring my socket. Also, I plan on bringing the axle that I borrowed from to to get home last year. It will still be good to use as a driver.

I'll have a hub nut socket too.

And C-Mac, if you were ever going to break your car at a track....this would be the time to do it. I felt more comfortable beating my car up 600+ miles away from home at last years shootout than 90 miles away at our local strip. The support is unbelievable.

Considering the inherent weaknes of those cars, ie: S/C,It might be wise to bring every tool you can fit into the car!!!!!!!-JK- I will be bringing my Hydrualic Jack, Jack stands, pump, all my tools. fluids and alike. Anyone who needs to use them is free to do so. Just dont ask me to fix anything, I suck. And if these freaking geniuses cant fix it afeter it break, then it isnt worth fixing.
