View Full Version : Am I a bad person?

The other day the old lady and I were out looking at cars. She wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I said no way... my wrangler gets bad enough gas mileage(and it's not a real Jeep). Well to make a long story short, I went back to my chevy boy roots and got her a 2000 GTP 2 door. I really like the car, and even wish the SC had that many options. Leather, Sunroof, BOSE soundsystem, and only 61,000 miles(wish the SC only had that many miles). Now I'm stuck... What do I drive? When we go somewhere together, the Jeep is out of the question due to the minor lift and her extreme shortness. Which SCed v6 to drive?

I'd say drive the GTP and keep the miles down on the SC.

Yep, keep FWD where it is supposed to be in the bad weather. On the road.:)

Actually Casey in bad weather like snow and such I prefer RWD over FWD. I feel that I have more control in a RWD car than a FWD car if I were to get into a sticky situation. A FWD car just plows and goes straight if you start slipping on ice where as I can steer with the front and rear tires in a RWD car.

I'd drive the GTP. My sister has a 2 door 2002 GTP and it's a fun car. The coupes are dead sexy, and I get the impression that the ladies like them better than SC's anyway. On the FWD vs RWD debate, I'm pretty impartial. They both have their pros and cons in the winter. I used to rock a Mark VIII in Cleveland and I never had a problem. But either way, keep the miles off the SC and drive the GTP.

I'd drive the GTP but I don't agree with RWD in the snow. I just have better control in bad weather with a FWD car, living here in Colorado I'm driving in the snow more than I'd like to be. Seems like the back wheels always want to spin out, going up an ice packed hill is almost near impossible in a RWD car unless I got the chains on it, must be a weight issue on the tires, I don’t know. I'll never forget trying to go places in my Camaro during the winter, never again!

At least with RWD, you have steering in the front and drive in the rear. In a FWD car, they are both in front, the rear is just along for the ride.

i definetly like the RWD in winter better, when i had my stratus, it sucked really bad when you went to turn, and the front wheels broke lose and you just went straight, big PITA, got stuck in the drive way a couple of times because of that lil FWD problem......

you just have to get used to, or get the hang of driving the ole RWD in the winter....

AND, you could just get an AWD or 4WD, and never have to worry about anything...

AND AND, as for the GTP/SC thing, how reliable are the GTP's compared to SC's?

My sister has had tranny problems with hers. I think it has around 65k on it right now and it doesn't go into reverse when it's warm. From what I understand this isn't uncommon. The ignition cylinder is toast too-key won't come out. She beats the ~~~~ out of the poor thing tho-it was pristine when she bought it, 10k miles later it's trashed. GTP's have fairly weak trannies so problems in that area are the norm in their world. All in all a nice car with enough power for self destruction with an abusive owner. I don't consider that unreliable.

I used to like RWD better too, but then i got some bridgestone blizzaks put on all four corners of my VW with FWD...WOW. Those things hook in the snow like it's no-ones business. They hook even better if i'm on the gas! I was going around a turn into a parking lot and the car stopped turning, and i was just going straight. I gave it some gas and the tires just pulled the car where i wanted it to go; it was awesome.

Although i was also in a lexus is300 or something....i can't exactly remember, but it has RWD, and he also has the blizzaks. We were cruising at 60MPH, not highway with no problem in 3-4 inches of snow on the ground before they had plowed at all.

I would recommend these snow tires to wnyone who does alot of winter driving....they work wonders

I second the Blizzak opinion, rwd, fwd, AWD wont matter, these tires are the way to go!

im enjoying our gtp. had it about a year. had to do the lower intake manifold gaskets, blower coupler, plugs and wires. its been a good good car. it gets driven every day quite a bit. weve put 20k on it in this year. go to the exhaust shop and at least do the u bend delete, it makes a difference. the onstar rocks too. 16 bucks a month and i get free tow, in car WHILE DRIVING diagnostics, directions, etc. also the onstar voice activated phone built into the rearview is pimp too. heated seats and all the other amenities make it an awesome highway cruiser

My wife has a 99 GTP and she can drive that car in any weather, where as my SC gets stuck in 3 inches of snow and is downright scary on even the smallest amount of ice. Front wheel drive works great in the snow...if the wheels start sliding up front, just step on the gas a little and it will turn better than any rear wheel drive car.

I used to get my SC stuck all the time. I had Z rated tires on it and they SUCK in the snow. However about 2 winters ago I broke down and bought some snow tires. Talk about a difference. This SC gets around AWESOME in the snow. Front wheel drive can get around better on all seasons in the snow, but put some snow tires on the RWD car and its awesome. Plus fwd has weight over the wheels so that also helps with traction. You could put some sand bags in the trunk of the SC to help that part out.

I don't put anything in my trunk, not even a spare tire, just a small speaker box that fits up against the rear seat, and I've yet to get it stuck with the snow tires.
