Tire width question

This is directed to anyone who has had 285/40/17's on 17x9 rims...i.e Tony Serno and/or others...Did you have any problems with the tires being too wide for the rims, (the manufacturer recommends 9.5" to 11" rims for that size tire) rubbing problems, or any other problems with using that size tire?

Any help would be appriciated?

Thanks.

a 285 will physically fit on a 9" wide wheel you just will not be taking full advantage of the tread width and may loose a little of cornering performance. A friend of mine has 295/35/18's on 18x8.5's on the back of a 500+ hp LS6 99 Camaro SS for street use. They just bulge the sidewall about 1" each side. He has never had any problems with them that wide, they've been on there for 2 years now. I plan on building a project 93 t bird with a big block and run 285's or 295's on 17x9's
