hey guys I have a 96 with the 3.8 and when i drvie the car for about five miles the alternator will get really hot (hotter than the exhaust manifolds). Now when this happens the charge output drops to about 13.5 volts. The other funny thing about this problem is that i know the charge needle in the car is supposed to move a little when you put on the AC or the cooling fan kicks on, but mine flutters quite frequently during driving operation. The engine is properly grounded, as is the alternator, and the alternator is brand new. Also, the battery is brand new as well. Any ideas guys?
