I dont know if this qualifies or not but thought I would give it a try. I just purchashed today a 1989 Cougar xr-7. Its a black on grey cloth with what ive been told a rare 5 speed for its kind. Not too many 5 speeds I guess. I dont know much about the car and will be a month before I even pick it up. The guy I bought it off of says it runs just not well. It doesnt like to idle. It has good oil pressure and the maf was recently changed. Other than that he believes the super charger is in good shape. The interior is pretty decent could use a good cleaning. It hasnt been wrecked or anything just needs some tlc. coule very tiny rust spots and some engine work. I couldnt complain for under $700 price tag for the car and Ive been looking for a cougar for some time now.

Yes, the XR-7 qualifies! I have a '90 XR-7 plus my two SC's. They're basically the same car. When you get yours home, you might check the IAC valve. It bolts to the side of the throttle body. A bad one can cause your car to not idle, or idle at a high speed. I just did my wife's SC last week. She started it at the grocery store and it wouldn't idle below 2000 RPM. Changed the IAC, and it's good as new. They cost between $65 at a parts store, and $105 at Ford. People say to pay the premium and get the Ford piece. Just something to check...

Ok just an update on how things are going on the XR-7. Sent full payment out today so shes paid for now. Only known mechanical problems so far is she doesnt like to idle and the light for the brakes is on in the dash. Guy said brakes are good with no problems so Im wondering if its some sort of ABS sensor. He said the car stops just fine. Im gonna look into the IAC and see if that might be causing the idle problem but Im open to other suggestions. The guy states he is pretty sure it hasnt blown a head gasket.

Ok screen name changed. Also signed up as SCCOA member today. 15 bucks is well worth the technical expertise and having good friends with something in common

I was just curious who everyone recommends for a cold air intake

Still waiting on my membership to go through. Also was wondering if someone could post here with the details again about removing the air silencer? I saw it in one post but cant remember which one.

Removing the air silencer isn't hard at all. Take the air box apart and remove the air filter. Unscrew the three nuts and drop the box, squeezing it out of there can be another issue.

Cool thx doug. Someone suggested taking the inner fender cover out to remove this. Is that recommended?
