intercooler tube install help

ok i installed the bottom one fine and uses copper RTV. then i go to put the top tube and and it was to tight so i loosened the rings and got more movement almost enough to get the top straight on the SC and it just wouldn't straighten out so after fighting with it i just took the bottom tubes off and spent 20 Min's cleaning the RTV on the openings...

i still couldn't get the top to straighten out, so i removed the entire inter cooler and tried to see if i could get the top on straight that way and it still will not straighten out... its because of this dam bolt that helps hold the Tube in place. its not giving it enough movement to go on straight. its just not gonna happen. (tried many times) cant i just remove this bolt i dint see it doing much since the play in the inter cooler shroud should give it enough movement not to break anything.

really i don't see another option. :(

has anyone had as many problems as im having with these cars. i mean really. almost every single thing ive touched seems to have a issue.

When taking the tubes off, carefully remove the IC and take those 2 power steering bracket studs out. You need a 7mm socket I think. When reinstalling, leave everything real loose, and then insert all the bolts again. [Note: some people just leave the 2 PSP bracket bolts off completely]. Reinstall the IC, and lightly tighten the 6 nuts that hold the tubes to the IC and rear intake. Then tighten the rest of the bolts, and then the 13mm nuts again. On the SC top, be sure to use a razor thin layer of RTV and hand tighten those bolts. Don't overtighten. Then go around and tighten the nuts securely and last the 2 PSP studs.

ok cool thank you for the info that sounds very promising. ill try that tonight after i wake up. I'm gonna have to buy some bolts for the top since they magically disapeard... and gonna use the gasket maker stuff for the top.

Also i have a idea. how Hot do the tubes get where the connect ? (max temp)

ok i just took the stud out and the Top is still not lining up right. the place where the bolt stud screw into is keeping if from straightening out... its not all the way lining up because of the bracket hole for the IC tube stud... what should i do I'm stuck and this car is about ready to get covered in gas and lit on fire  the bracket is on stright since they only go on one way. mybee i should take my grinder and grind the hole off the IC tube ?

Make sure everything is connected loosely at first. This includes putting the bolts in the SC top and turning them just a couple threads, the top should move up and down freely. Pull the top IC tube into the collar nut by turning the collar nut, you'll need the clearance this provides down by the IC's top hole (entrance hole), but again don't tighten it completely yet. See that all joints line up and then go around and tighten them little by little in a sequence. I am assuming you removed the PS stud? If not, remove it. You may find that a set of teflon reuseable IC gaskets from Wynn (tbird88) makes a world of difference.

i have the intercooler completely out and the bottom tube isnt even connected. and i removed the power stearing stud.

basicly im setting the Top IC tub on that has the top on making sure its gonna line up before i try putting everything back on. and the Top just wont line up... everything is solid and it just wont give enough to get lined up.

Everything needs to be loose AND the top has to have the bolts in it, but not tightened yet. Don't try to line up one piece alone. All pieces should be "brought in" [tightened] simultaneously. Anyhow, these are just suggestions on how I made it work. No one said it was easy. :)

thats the thing. i cant line the bolts up on the IC Top to even start to install the rest. something is really wrong here. the PS bracket piece that the stud goes into is keeping the top from laying flat on the Top. have you had the same problems with the top not lining up while trying to get everything together ? really i don't know what happened and why this wont line up so i can get the bolts in the TOP

are these normal problems ? i already tried with tubes hanging loosly and im getting the same results...

3 months in the garage and all i need to do is connect these IC Tubes and the fan and put the battery in and i can start my car...

as you can see in picture i can get it to lay flat but its not straight. and when i try to get it straight its rising up because its hits the PS bracket before it lines up wit the top opening

Take the top IC tube off the SC top [hat]. Lightly bolt the top [hat] to the SC. Then loosely attach the joints [tubes] and tighten in a sequence. Does anyone live near this guy that can maybe run over and help him out? It's rediculous that THIS is keeping his car off the road. Now, if he were engineless like me, then it'd be understandable.

ok ill put the Top on again flat and then try to turn the tube to line it up straight and check the angle of the IC Tube Bracket against the PS Bracket and see if taking the Collar nut and getting a different twist will help at all. really thats the last thing i really wanna do it take the color nut off since i don't have a strap wrench and i don't wanna beat on it cause with my luck something is gonna get messed up and make it take even longer to get together. lol
ill try that those if thats really gonna be my only option :(

ive had 3 times more problems with this car than i have had with all cars ive done put together.

Welcome to the lovely world of SCs. P.S. I thought you had the collar already loosened. The fact that you didn't is contributing to at least half your trouble.
